He was mentioned in the Sam Vines training thread, but let's leave that one for Sam and start his own. Freiburg have made an offer for Colorado Rapids midfielder Cole Bassett. He turns 18 in July, so the transfer could be finalised next month. #SCF #Rapids96 #MLS— Ronan Murphy (@swearimnotpaul) June 28, 2019 This is an older compilation, but it's fairly substantial. Is there any indication that the source of the second tweet was anything other than the Goal.com article cited in the first one?
I see now that the poster of the second quote posted the Goal.com story in their thread. Didn't see anything in a quick German news search, including (perhaps oddly) stories citing the U.S. report. I'm sure there's more to come.
My personal opinion is that I hope Bassett stays with Colorado for another 2 years. He is starting for them, and playing against grown men. With Freiburg, at best he is going to be playing for their u23 team in the German 4th/5th division. If he continues to be an MLS starter, in 2 years he will have over 6000 professional minutes...and if he can have a good showing at the 2021 U20 world cup...he is going to be at his max value and far more prepared for the Bundesliga Now if the offer is too good to turn down for the Rapids...or they give Bassett some guarantees on getting first team minutes....Even better. But I just feel, that getting minutes playing against grown men...is better development than playing against youth teams in Europe
Agreed only way it’s going to feel justifiable for us is if Freiburg are paying more than we would expect them to. Also wouldn’t Bassett be more competition for Mendez? I’ve always seen Bassett as an 8 and Mendez as a 10.
SC Freiburg are no longer interested in signing Cole Bassett. Sky Info: @scfreiburg wird US Talent Cole bassett nicht verpflichten. Zuvor hatte der SCF ein Angebot für den Mittelfeldspieler @ColoradoRapids hinterlegt. #transferupdate @SkySportDE— Marc Behrenbeck (@Sky_Marc) July 12, 2019
I am not saying he's going to move to Arsenal, but what's interesting for Cole is that he's in the process of applying for a Greek passport (at least when I spoke to him a few months ago), which would open more possibilities whenever he decides to move.
is the thought he is the kind of kid arsenal would be pursuing if he didn’t play for silent stans hinterlands affiliate?
I would also like to add that Cole is still not that far in the process of getting his Greek passport. I remember speaking with Wil Trapp about getting his Greek passport. It took him A LOT longer than he expected - it took a few years when he was thinking it would only have taken him a few months. For Trapp, it was weird because his Greek grandfather was alive, had all of his papers, and actually lived with Wil and his parents growing up. It seemed like everything was lined up to make it easy. Hopefully for Cole, it is much smoother.
The Rapids and Arsenal are both owned by Kroenke. Was probably an easy move really. Kid is 18, he doesn’t have too many miles on him from this season, Arsenal isn’t the worst place to learn something, and London is awesome. How many other 01s are home playing Fortnight this offseason?
This article includes the below blurb, I guess the "spurred other offers" part (along with the Vines piece) is new info: "Last winter Bassett and Sam Vines trained with Freiburg of the German Bundesliga. Freiburg eventually offered a transfer on each, which spurred other offers for the young local duo."
UPDATE.After his training stint with Arsenal U23’s, I’m told that Cole Bassett is now training with Hoffenheim U23’s. https://t.co/fDSn0YH9yB— USMNT Only (@usmntonly) December 3, 2019
On what makes Cole Bassett one of MLS's top young talents and what's next for the US youth int'l. #Rapids96 Also, per sources: Austrian club Rapid Vienna and Swiss side Lausanne are interested in Bassett. Freiburg have had multiple bids rejected. https://t.co/FtFoovmBXo— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) October 21, 2020
1340022929699049475 is not a valid tweet id Not sure how reliable the source, but the teams named and price tag would seemingly be realistic for Bassett.
Assuming the Wolfsburg interest is real, I wonder how they see that playing out. Would he follow the other young Americans they've picked up recently and head to the reserves? That would be kind of unfortunate given that he's solidly a first-team player in MLS.
There's a 3rd Degree parody account? I used to think I was a Pretty Online American Soccer Guy. But I just learned there's a 3rd Degree parody account. What a time to be alive!
