Re: We're Staying in Cleveland It definitely was hard watching a lot of the games last season, especially because there were definitely times when we were losing and weren't necessarily playing worse than our opponents. Bedford was a terrible situation, and I don't think anybody would deny that. That stadium could burn to the ground and I'd be ok with it.
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland Not sure how valid this, I haven't listened to it myself, but poster Renaissance Coach posted this in the USL/TOA thread: As per Chris Economides, Senior Director of USL First Division, Cleveland City Stars will not be returning to the USL as they are looking at other ownership groups in Cleveland. http://www.soccersam.com/media/audio/20091114.mp3 Towards the very end
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland The City Stars saga is a sad one. USL threw them under the bus -- the City Stars go from being a solid championship club to nothing in one USL1 season. Obviously the City Stars were not financial prepared to make the jump to USL1 and USL's inflexible stadium made a difficult situation even harder. The City Stars should have been more adament about certain things since they were in essence doing USL1 a favor by increasing the ranks of USL1. However, it shows poor management on the part of USL1. The USL owes Cleveland... I hope you guys get to keep the City Stars (however, in the short-term -- USL2 is a better fit).
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland I'll have to listen to the show and figure out where they talk about it. If the City Stars are gone, who was at the meeting in Oregon?
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland From what i'm hearing elsewhere (can't divulge), it sounds like Cleveland will be in USL-1 next year, but with the guy who was going to buy the Stars buying an expansion team instead (the expansion franchise may be pricier, but he wouldn't have to incur any debts CCS may owe.) NOTE: I have not had a chance to hear the podcast yet. some thoughts - City to Akron USL? - City to the TOA league? (Heck, no matter how bad things are, we're already more solvent than at least two of their teams.)
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland Ok I listened to the last half of the Radio Broadcast. Besides the hosts being Rhino-fanboys, I didn't get anything out of it about the state of Cleveland. So, whatever.
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland Once again, we hear from a neutral media source that is anything but neutral. Stop telling us if the USL or TOA is going to win and just tell us about the teams. Geez. Anyway, good for Cleveland, I hope.
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland Screw all of this....Just bring back Professional Indoor soccer!!! In the heydays on the late 80's and 90's, it was a ton of fun to watch the Crunch play in front of 8,000 a night. I started playing indoor in Hudson, it brings back lots of memories....and how hard indoor soccer can be.
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland Ugh, was never a fan. But, you're right, the Crunch/Force used to have the Convo Center rocking.
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland Sounds good, hope it comes through! Thanks for the pick me up. The last 24 hours have been brutal (especially between 8:30 and 11:30 last night).
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland You actually watched that?!? I read a 400 page book for my American Revolution reading seminar instead of that mess. Sorry, bro!
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland I remember the Force playing in front of SRO crowds of 20,000+ at the Coliseum. The always responded well in front of those crowds, too. What a time that was. Now you can't even tell the Coliseum ever existed. It's been erased. ------RM
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland The Convo had its moments in indoor's last decade and a half here (only time I ever had to buy tickets from a scalper for an event at the Convo - sure as heck has never been necessary for Vikings games).
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland Is Cleveland represented in Tampa at the USL AGM? If so, who is representing them? The current coaching staff or the old/current owners?
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland Per Brian Quarstad, the team will be dropping back to USL2 under new ownership.
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland Just what he responded to my question in his most recent USL/TOA post. That's all I got.
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland http://www.insidemnsoccer.com/2009/...iation-soccer-usl-update-112109/#comment-2847 Well, it still looks like its iffy. Well at least he isn't saying they are dead. There are much worse fates than USL2. Heck, you guys were champs there.
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland I think most of us would welcome a move back to USL2. We dominated there and with new ownership, we could continue to dominate. If we do move back down, I hope it means a return to Krenzler.
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland I hope so too. I never did make it to a game last season. I was planning to take the wife to the home opener, but the weather looked like it would be awful, so we stayed home. I watched a couple of games on TV. The performance of the team was dismal, and I really, truly hated the US-football field. I just couldn't motivate myself to drive out there to see the CSS live.
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland The other great thing about Krenzler is the bar that's just around the corner. Could be perfect for pre-game festivities
