CYHSY! 10-15-2005 Atlanta I really dig this band...their album is great, their live show amazing. Please see the following blog for 4 new CYH songs including 'Satan Said Dance' (phantastic). They were recorded at the Earl, Atlanta, GA 10-15-2005 and sound awesome. Enjoy, GP
Love the album. Middling on the boots posted on YANP. And like everyone else, hate the name. Here's McSweeney's take on their name.
I knew the backlash was starting when I saw someone at CMJ in Lincoln Center with a t-shirt that said: CRAP YOUR PANTS SO WHAT. I'd worship that band if they'd get a singer who didn't try so hard to sound weird.
I've yet to buy or hear the whole album, and I was subconsiously resisting the band because I have such deeply embedded impervious-to-hype, nothing-is-new-pour-moi, c'mon-how-good-can-they-really-be issues that I've been working through with my alt-analrapist* for years (see, Fire, Arcade). But I caved over Tidal Wave of Young Blood and Yellow Teeth -- and just in the last week I've been marvelling at Is This Love and Gimme Some Salt. The new ones are just kinda hard to hear, recording-wise. But I'd still wear that Crap Your Pants shirt. Because Funny is Funny. (...it's pronounced ah-nahl'-ruh-pist)
lol...I hear you C.y.C. - I too shy away from over hypes...fortunately I found them before the hype and have loved (just about) everything I have heard so far. the best thing about Alec is his lyrics...extremely smart, once you can get past his voice. It's not a problem for me but I can see how some are turned off. However anyone who says this band 'sucks' or is 'crap' really must be an uber indie music snob.
I like every song on their album but the first one. WTF is up with the weird carnival sound??? I'll have to download this new stuff when I get a chance.
I don't think CYHSY are a crap band, but I'm one of those people who can't get past Ounsworth's voice. But I like Lou Reed, so WTF do I know?
I'm glad to see "Satan Said Dance" out. It was my favorite song from their show I saw in late August.
that's how I feel about Neil Young. I know I'm supposed to like him but for gosh-darn-darn can't stand him.
definitely Kop...if you accept that and move on you can really begin to accept the bands collective talent.
