He's on loan from AC Milan as their target van Aanholt was unavailable for a transfer. PSV management has been blundering for the last two years when it was about the very much needed upgrading/revamping of the defense. They this season managed to bring back a CD in retirement mode and buy the one German for millions who can't defend at all. So they needed urgent repair and with Rodriguez in they can move Viergever back into the center. The fact they didnot put in Gloster in recent weeks indicates they didnot rate him ready yet for the jump, with the risk damaging him in a non functional defense.
Gloster was injured till just a couple of weeks ago. He was never going to be thrust into the starting spot without first returning to a full 90 minutes a few times with the Jong team.
Given the defensive mess with PSV they werenot going to do so with an unexperienced player in the first place. What PSV needed and was looking for was a player with experience and immediate impact. Hence the van Aanholt chasing and when that was impossible they turned to this Swiss national team player.
This adds a lot of context I didn't see in your post from earlier today. Gloster's prospects at PSV are a lot different if that distinction is made vs. a full transfer. A full transfer indicates a good LB in the prime of his career will be there for years to come blocking Glosters' advancement... a six month loan... that's another thing entirely.
Jong PSV (16th) play @ MVV Maastricht (15th) today. {Note that PSV (5th) play @ Ajax (1st) on Sunday.}
Schoten =shots Schoten op doel =shots on target Balbezit=possession Passes=Passes Passnauwkeurigheid=Pass accuracy Overtredingen=fouls Gele kaarten= yellow cards Rode kaarten= red cards Buitenspel= off side Hoekschoppen = corners
There's something weird about those stats. It's as if YPSV when in possession of the ball, had no clue what to do with it. MVV managed double shots compared to YPSV, despite hardly having the ball and passing it worse.
I've seen that game this season, repeatedly, when Emery was still in charge of Arsenal. The best example that's similar to this is v. Wolves on November 2. In that match, Arsenal had 58% of the possession and completed 86% of their passes, but were outshot 24-10 by a Wolves team that only completed 80% of their passes. I didn't watch this Jong PSV match, but I imagine that it was a ton of passing in defense in midfield with no penetration, and MVV smashing them on the counter whenever there was a turnover. Their pass percentage was probably lower because they were trying more long diagonals in behind an out-of-position PSV defense. Love that MVV pulled that off while down a man for the entire second half.
Yeah. That's why it's so good for the young talents to face adult teams as nothing is going to be a piece of cake. Watching the video to see and analyse what happened is a very good schooling for them.
Came out in the 70's up 1-0 w/ Jong down a man (Ledezma). He was ok. Decent in possession and defensively. Sensible positioning and choices. Not a danger going fw. The type of lb Gregg's system is looking for, but maybe shouldn't? I think he could factor into Olympic qualifying as a starter. I'd maybe have him as backup.
Club PR puff piece but maybe some interesting info in there: https://www.psv.nl/english-psv/news/article/chris-gloster-loves-life-at-psv.htm
The remaining Eerste Divisie season was cancelled yesterday. Jong PSV were in 18th at the time of the campaign's abandonment. Gloster's final 2019/2020 stat line will be an assist and a yellow card in 1,265 minutes with Jong PSV (16 games, 14 starts). It was also announced yesterday that as PSV Eindhoven in fourth place were in Eredivisie at the time of the season's abandonment that they will qualify, pending UEFA's approval, for the 2020/2021 UEFA Europa League third qualifying round.
“I always see on the media that the US needs a LB. So honestly, I just want people to know to wait & hopefully my time will come. When my time comes I'll be able to show out & try to make the US proud.” Chris Gloster (19) 🗣Our full interview👇 #USMNT https://t.co/IoRWfpp0Px— OneGoal (@OneGoalUS) May 22, 2020
If you don't want Adams playing RB for the U.S., then you really want Gloster (or someone else, I suppose) to break through so that Dest doesn't have to move over. It's one of the more interesting MNT plotlines of this cycle for me.
Even if Dest flips to LB, there's still Yedlin, Cannon, and theoretically Chandler who can slot in as natural RBs before Adams gets shoehorned in there. But yeah, a natural left back would rule.
I get that there are other players on the list who might play the position. (It seems debatable whether Berhalter sees Chandler as an option.) It comes down to what you think of the options and, more importantly, what Berhalter thinks of them. I honestly don't know if I have a good guess about what he would actually do in a situation where everybody in the pool as he sees it was healthy and available and there was a game tomorrow that mattered. Even then the situation/opponent/etc. might color his choice.
