Durkin, from the Richmond suburb of Glen Allen, said he signed a three-year contract with Sint-Truiden. Terms were not disclosed, but after earning about $100,000 in MLS, he will receive a considerable pay bump.

“It would’ve been difficult to get to this [salary] point in MLS; I would’ve needed another few years,” he said.

Back on April 2nd, the Jupiler Pro League's board of directors agreed to cancel the remaining season. However, UEFA then threatened to ban clubs from European competitions if their league season was terminated early without attempting to play all matches. As a result, the decision to accept the proposal to cancel the remaining season was put off on three separate occasions until today when it was accepted by the General Assembly of the Belgian Pro League.

Durkin registered a goal and a yellow card in 830 minutes (13 appearances, 10 starts) during the 2019/2020 First Division A season. Sint-Truiden were in 12th at the time of the season's cancellation.

Durkin also played 113 minutes (2 starts) in the Belgian Cup. Sint-Truiden were eliminated in the Seventh Round (Round of 16).

Let’s hope he keeps it. Hoping he continues to improve under the radar and jumps out next year with a decent transfer.

He does play a position we’re a bit stacked at, but it never hurts to have backups.

Is he learning French? I imagine due to the early end of the season, that probably would have been a solid timepasser.

They speak Flemish (Dutch) in Sint-Truiden. The manager is Australian, and given the makeup of the squad Spanish or Japanese might be more useful on this team...

Yeah, Kevin Muscat had a lot of success coaching Melbourne Victory from 2014-2019 and then was hired into an advisory role this January by Sint-Truiden, to prepare and get his UEFA coaching license sorted out before moving downstairs into the manager role.

STVV's CEO (a former sporting director at FC Tokyo) said that he rated Muscat's work and attacking football at Melbourne really highly, which was ostensibly influenced by working as an assistant for Australia's MNT under Ange Postecoglou (who recently coached Yokohama F. Marinos to a league title in Japan with a modern, attacking brand of soccer). Ironically Muscat was known as an extremely dirty player during his active career...

I guess it's sort of like Jesse Marsch's path - one connection leads to another, work with successful colleagues and clubs and wait for your chance.

So he's an England-born Australian of Maltese descent.

Hopefully his wife is some sort of Caribbean-Canadian so their kids can begin staking their claims to half of the Commonwealth.

I believe this was him committing a penalty. Bailed out when the ensuing penalty hit the post.

If so, here are his raw numbers in the 0-0 draw with Oostende

Pretty lousy passing day, but probably a good sign that he managed to stay on the field while two other midfielders were subbed off.

Quite so. The numbers are mediocre, against a mediocre side, but he was evidently the cleanest dirty shirt on the day.

In any case, it's the start of the season. Teams and players need 3-4 weeks to play themselves into full match fitness. Let's see how he's doing in mid-September
