Fair enough. I always wondered how a stadium could be "in the middle of nowhere" when Midway Airport and vicinity seem pretty populated to me.
Chester also makes it easier for Wilminton, DE and surrounding areas where there is a large Latino population...
From what I understand the Buccini family development company already owns the land in Chester where the stadium is planned. That seems to take down a major hurdle in the stadium building process. Speaking through a friend to one of the Buccini brothers, Philly is getting a club. Very exciting.
They have done a great job here in Wilmington redeveloping the waterfront. I am cautiously optimistic
Are you sure Philly's getting a team? The Vegas Odds say 6-1 chance: http://www.lasvegassun.com/sunbin/stories/sports/2007/sep/18/566654916.html (Only Seattle and STL are higher, 3-2 and 4-1)
why did they feel compelled to mention lurie's name, especially if he has nothing to do with MLS coming to philly?
Because he got the Linc built by saying it could be used for soccer and at one point he fit the mold (NFL Owners in revenue controlled stadiums - see Kraft and Hunt).

Didn't the city of Chester had a vote scheduled for Sept. 20th or something? what was that? did the date change? Thanks.
Rumors I have heard from media say Chester and Del Co is all set, which turns the focus to Harrisburg. The big vote will probably be at the beginning to middle of October.
So there won't be a vote Sept. 20th then? What's the vote in October for? securing funds from the state?
¶M.L.S. is expected to announce by the end of the year where two expansion teams will begin play, possibly by 2009. Philadelphia, with plans to build a stadium in Chester, Pa.; St. Louis, with plans to build in Collinsville, Ill.; and Seattle have apparently moved to the top of the list. It is possible the league will add two more teams by 2010, for a total of 16, which could include a second team in the New York metropolitan area. NY Times today. Seems positive, no?
I didn't think it's worthy of a new thread and won't link it since the site sucks, but check the letters to the editor section of todays Delaware County Daily Times to read a pro-stadium letter from a Chester resident. In a nutshell she's refuting Kirkland (who I think was just looking for some $$ to get thrown his constituents way) and showing a lot of enthusiasm for the prospect of soccer in the city.
