My concern with this tactic is that it sometimes allows the fouling team to get too aggressive. As you say though, he's been good, the ref that is.
no again. kante for jorginho. though i don't hate this....kante in the middle? edit: no, kovacic in jorginho's position. still, we do need to try others there. and we have one more sub yet.
i think he's just a really mixed bag and very young. i totally agree that he's let some in that i think he shouldn't over the course of the season. he's also been left out to dry a lot. and one-on-ones like that, i mean, we expect our players to score in that position, and it was right in the corner. it would have been a phenomenal stop. maybe he should have come out quicker?
We have some of the poorest movement I've ever seen for an "attacking" style team. We don't do simple triangles. A poor team was able to press us all way into our own half for a good amount of time. This system sucks balls but I'll enjoy the win until Monday. Hopefully the academy will take it easy on the senior players and let them win in training tomorrow.
On Kepa - he's one of the top 10 keepers in world football, end of story. Like, today. That goal was 1v1 and perfectly placed in the corner. Keepers ahead of Kepa in the world: DeGea, Lloris, Oblak, Buffon, Ter Stegen, Neuer, Ederson. Same level-ish: Courtois, Handanoci, Navas, Pickford Overrated: Becker Legend: Timmy Howard
I was thinking that Kovacic would be a viable alternative to Jorghino in that role in front of the back four. Very quick feet and a decent passer of the ball and more creative and more willing to play a forward ball. UNTIL. . .that goal we conceded and I realised that out of Jorghino, Kante and Kovacic only Kante would have been able to stop that goal. Kante is fast and he intercepts play and he tackles and only he can protect the back four. IF we had the best back four in the world maybe we wouldn't need that protection and the luxury of Jorghino might work for us? Our current back 4 need the protection.
"Becker" is Allison. I completely agree with Brock Hannsen's keeper assessment. I don't think Kepa is a weak link in the team by any means.
