towards mexico fans only famous for tacos your only famous theres only one team in north america one team in north america are you guatemala in disguise?
Help me out on this one, what is that Mexican song that that starts off "Aye, Aye, Aye-aye..." (Aye being a phonetic long I) We could sing that chant to that tune: "Aye, Aye, Aye-aye... You're only famous for tacos!"
Good stuff. From the Mexico game (I think this one was from Palermo10): No se puede! Estados Unidos! I really want to start a pre-game tradition of singing My Country, Tis of Thee. It´s a great song that everyone knows the words to and it´s easier than singing other traditional songs like America the Beautiful. Almost every national team sings a patriotic ballad prior to matches and we shouldn´t be any different. I think right before the starting lineups are announced is the time to do it. Also, I´ve noticed they always play "Eye of the Tiger" during half-time. Now don´t get me wrong, I know it´s a cheesy song, but it´s vintage Americana (can you get more American than Rocky? I think not) and it´s a fun song to sing. The instrumental part lends itself to a group sing along very well, and the USSF seems to play it over the loudspeaker every game. I´m bringing lyrics to the next game and making everyone sing it, goddamnit. Good thread. Let´s keep it going.
Is there any way we can get the USSF to change their goal celebration song? That Goal goal goal, to the red white and blue... OMG that is OLD! IT SUCKS, ITS GOTTA GO!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know what to play when we score, but anything else but THAT would probably be better.
There are few things in the BS-o-sphere that are universally agreed upon, but one is that the "Goals, Goals, Goals" song is a flat out abomination. It would be hard to find something explicitly soccer-related to replace it, though. Instead, I think we should look to our rich history of rock & roll, country, and blues music for something that is (a) quintessentially American (b) catchy, but not annoying, obnoxious, or over the top, etc. (c) fairly easy to sing along with... Thus, I would officially like to proffer "Looking Out My Back Door" by Creedence Clearwater Revival to become 'our song:' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjyU8_A1L34 Is there any music that sounds more American than CCR? Anyway, The Dude approves: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mvvIbSAjNQ What do you guys think? In any case I occasionally read on these boards about people meeting Sunil at a game or somewhere else. I think all of us should make it our mission to bitch about that song to him personally if any of us ever get the chance.
My Country, Tis of Thee goes by another name: "God Save the Queen" a.k.a. England's National Anthem. By singing that, you're singing another country's national anthem. The only time it would be good to sing that is if we play against England and sing the American lyrics while they're singing the original words. Use it as a taunt. Otherwise, it's a bad idea... ------- You could always try "Born in the USA" by Bruce Springsteen, but that sounds too cliche...
My Country tis of thee??? Eye of the Tiger??? You've got to be freakin kidding me! How Mamby Pamby can you get!
that's already being sung at USA matches (at least here on the east coast if Metroflip is around): Aye yey yey yey somebody stole my sombrero some dirty old rat has stolen my hat and now I have nothing to wear-o wear-o wearrrrrr-ohhh!
I stand corrected on "My Country", but only b/c I forgot that it's the same song as "God Save the Queen". And yeah, it's a slow song, but if you're not aware, almost every country sings an emotional, patriotic song prior to the kick-off. England sings the aforementioned "God Save the Queen" for national team soccer games and they sing "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" for national team rugby matches. Liverpool fans sing "You'll Never Walk Alone". They're traditional, and can induce goosebumps if you get enough people to sing. We don't have much fan tradition yet, but it's gotta start somewhere, right? Re: Eye of the Tiger, it's more a joke than anything, singing it tongue-in-cheek. Sorry if you don't find it humorous, but I think it would be hilarious if we got a couple hundred people to sing it during half-time. It's cheesy as hell, but that's what makes it great. Rocky is a piece of Americana, for better or worse, and the USSF seems to want to play it at our games. Might as well sing along.

To definitively answer your question, the other day while I was at a Clemson baseball game, they played "The Final Countdown" between the bottom of the eighth and the top of the ninth innings.
Go with the traditional: If I had the wings of an eagle, and I had the arse of a crow, I'd fly over Mexico, and sh*t on the bast*rd$ below! Sh*t on, sh*t on, sh*t on the bast*rd$ below oh oh! Sh*t on, sh*t on, sh*t on the bast*rd$ below! If you want substitute "crap" and "losers" for the offending words, which I usually do. Yes, a bit late, but I'm thinking of qualifying and possibly Gold Cup and Copa America.
I read in an online news paper that a while back Jamaica played Australia in a friendly at Craven Cottage in England. Australia was up 5-0 late in the game, so the fans started chanting, "You should have stuck with the bob sled! You should have stuck with the bob sled!"
Lifted straight from Popular Songs in American History[/URL] this is undoubtedly solid gold as an anthem for the MNT. If you could only teach the lyrics and melody to 30,000 or so people I think it would be spooky good...even in midi form I hear the greatness. Lyrics This tune is also known as The American Hero. It was written the year of the Battle of Bunker Hill, 1775. The words were a poem by Nathaniel Niles, The American Hero. The tune was by Andrew Law. Why should vain Mortals tremble at the sight of Death and Destruction in the field of battle, Where Blood and Carnage, where Blood and Carnage, Clothe the Ground in Crimson, Sounding with Death-Groans? Death will invade us by the means appointed, And we must all bow to the King of Terrors; Nor am I anxious, nor am I anxious, If I am prepared, what shape he comes in. Still shall the Banner of the King of Heaven Never advance where I'm afraid to follow; While that precedes me, while that precedes me With an open Bosom, War, I defy thee. Life, for my Country and the Cause of Freedom, Is but a Trifle for a Worm to part with; And if preserved, and if preserved In so great a Contest, Life is redoubled.
Here are a couple ideas: 1) Already done at USA matches: my favorite OHHHHH, U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-AAAAAAAA! Repeat 2) To the tune of "Love is Like a Rock" by Donnie Iris Gooch can rock you Always stops you AAAAHH! AAAAHH! Gooch is like a rock!
We are also famous for kicking Colo Colo ASS at the Sudamericana Final at your own country........ HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
I think "battle hymn of the republic" is by far the best choice for a pregame song, If there would be anyway for a bunch of people to learn it, "Over There" (often referred to as "johnny get your gun") would be aweseome. So you see what i mean, here's the chorus: Over there, over there, Send the word, send the word over there - That the Yanks are coming, The Yanks are coming, The drums rum-tumming Ev’rywhere. So prepare, say a pray’r, Send the word, send the word to beware. We’ll be over, we’re coming over, And we won’t come back till it’s over Over there.
