Today Tobias Xavier Lopez (boy, one sounds much more important when their middle name is an everyday part of their title) in the Star-Telegram had an article about FCD meeting with Sebastian "Chamagol" Gonzalez & Denilson to sign one of them as the designated player. Chamagol is a Chilean striker who plays with Veracruz. He is 29. Denilson is a former "most expensive footballer in the world" when he moved from Sao Paulo to Real Betis and current player for Saudi Arabia's Al-Nasr. I believe Denilson is a winger. He also was a member of Brasil's 2002 World Cup winning team. He is 30. Which one would we prefer? Should the DP be a winger or are we in more need of a striker? Who would we move to make cap space/SI slot? Personally, I never heard of Chamagol before, but I am not sure a winger is the thing we need right now, even if he is a World Cup vet.
Thanks for posting the names....if it was me and these were my only choices I'd splash for Denilson over Gonzalez. While our forwards had not exactly lit up the board I think we are more in need of someone to provide consistent service from the wing. Both would bring a nice flair/attitude to the field.
Wow. Signing either of those guys would be incredible. edit: Hmm... I was thinking of a younger Denilson that plays defensive mid.
Another thought- any chance in hades we could trade someone(s) (Ruiz & Saragosa) for a second DP? That way we could free cap space, Senior Slot(s) & be able to sign both?

Great quote from Denilson recorded in Wikipedia: On David Beckham: "He’s pretty. So he’s very lucky: he’s both a footballer AND pretty. I’m this ugly and still the women are all over me."
Based solely of the wikipedia articles, I'd have to say Chamagol. Denilson sounds like someone who just wants a big check (in Saudi Arabia or the United States) instead of playing hard for a good club.
I say go for the Brasilian just to bring back all of those Brasil fans that came to the CAP match. Maybe he can put the ball into the box for the strikers we already have, they will be great with consistant service.
Yeah...he'd be nice to have. From my perspective a DP has to lead to hardware but also to more people in the stands. A few of these stepovers will help get people of their butts and into the game.

I sent him an email telling him "Nobody gives a shit about soccer! The Rangers need some love from the media too!" j/k
I am not to crazy about "former most expensive footballer in the world" players. Chamagol was a key fwd in Atlante. From MedioTiempo, some of his stats. Don't know much about the Brazilian, but I would vote "yes" on Sebastian.
According to these stats, Chamagol played 1,237 minutes in the Clausura 2007 & has scored 1 goal. I think we already have a forward with similar stats...
But. Again. That's one short season under certain players (Veracruz). Look at his season with Tigres and Atlante.
I think the important thing is that they are still looking to add players, and aren't content with being in first. whether or not the players are worth it, we will see, but its good that options are being explored.
Denilson will probably have a bigger effect on the field, Chamagol will probably have a bigger effect on ticket sales. Take your pick, I know what HSG's is.
Really? I was thinking Denilson would make for one hell of a "name" signing. And if it really did bring in some Brazilian fans, that could do wonders for the overall gameday experience at PHP (not that Inferno, La Raza, etc don't already do a great job....just that some fervent Brazilian fans might take the stadium to another level.....maybe, maybe not I suppose).
Depends on who. For example, if you are talking about the Mexican/Chicano market, I am not sure Denilso is that well recognized. Chamagol may be a different story.
Ok... I read the tea leaves and here it is: FCD trades Ruiz and Nunez to ? for draft picks and cash. FCD signs Denilson. Denilson fills the needed winger position that is needed to feed Ricardinho a Brazilian style ball as well as mentor the lad and other CAP loaners to follow!
