"It's Chelsea" Tie to be played during the week of September 21st - at Stamford Bridge. Hopefully the match will be on Setanta or ESPN 360 here in the States, but kickoff time and TV are TBD. Have to think ours is just about the most interesting, here are the rest of the match-ups: Arsenal v West Bromwich Albion Aston Villa v Cardiff City Barnsley v Burnley Bolton Wanderers v West Ham United Carlisle United v Portsmouth Chelsea v Queens Park Rangers Hull City v Everton Leeds United v Liverpool Manchester City v Fulham Manchester United v Wolverhampton Wanderers Nottingham Forest v Blackburn Rovers Peterborough United v Newcastle United Preston North End v Tottenham Hotspur Scunthorpe United v Port Vale Stoke City v Blackpool Sunderland v Birmingham City There are usually 2 or 3 TV matches each round as selected by Sky Sports. These are then picked up in the States by Setanta or ESPN 360.
Our and Leeds/Liverpool seem like good ones for TV. Hope ours gets televised. I'd love to see a QPR/Chelsea game in person sometime, but it won't be this year... hope we're making a trip up there in the league in the next season or two.
I will be going to that match at the Bridge. I have been a QPR fanatic since I was a toddler in my little hoops... ha! I live about 1 mile from Loftus Road. My name is Tel Currie, I don't knoe if you have heard of him but my cousin is Tony Currie. He sent me a load of gear down from Sheffield last week, so it's a family team. MY favourite player ever though was Rodney Marsh who I also talk too and have met Stanley Bowels hundreds of times (Sorry, i'm not actually name dropping just giving you a bit of background) The argument that has raged for 30 years is who was the best Marsh or Bowels? that is the oldest debate at Loftus Rd and still going! I'm confident we will beat Chelsea. The top teams find the League Cup (As I still call it) a pain because they just want to concentrate on Europe and the League Championship, for us.. It will be like the FA cup final!
In 2001 we had a pre- season game at Loftus against Chelsea who had just spent millions on Lampard etc. We went 2-0 down and came back and won 3-2!!! it was Heaven. It was like the '67 League Cup Final all over again! Do you guys get all the live games and QPR DVD's etc? because of Rodney I like the Tampa Bay Rowdies but we have NOTHING! no DVD's just a shirt you can buy from one shop. I would love a Tampa Bay DVD, that would be great! ATOUK, Is Stan your favourite player my friend?
I didn't have the honor of seeing him play in person (I first went to Loftus Road in the 00/01 season), but I have met him twice and he was very generous with his time and was great fun to speak with, so of the all-time greats he is definitely my favorite. Welcome to the QPR board on Big Soccer. We're a small group (about 7 regulars) of US-based QPR supporters (although Lloydy stops in on a rare occasion), but we try to keep this board active with chat about the R's.
Many of us get the QPR World/QPR Player serice, so we can listen to the games live and then see video highlights on our computer. I've also picked up several of the year-in-review DVDs. And we get to watch the R's on TV on Setanta in the US for most of the games that are on Sky in the UK.
Welcome GenuineMarsh. I was lucky enough to see both Rodney and Bowles and would put Bowles on top -- but not by much. Remember, Rodney played much of his QPR career in lower divisions, while with Stanley we were top of the first division when Stan was doing his stuff. Anyhow, its a fun discussion to have. They were both geniuses with the ball. No doubt about that. I loved Tony Currie when he played for us. He was one of my favourites for sure. As you know, he came to us from Leeds and some thought he was passed it when he arrived. But they couldn't have been more wrong. He was exactly what we needed in the middle of a very young set of lads. We played on plastic in those years and yet he could hit a ball 30 yards across the pitch, perfectly picking out Goddard at full speed. If you hit is a yard too far on that pitch then it was gone. Plus, he scored some gorgeous goals. As for DVDs, the USA and UK have different DVD systems. A DVD bought here couldn't be played on a British TV (different number of lines on the TV, or something like that). Anyhow, welcome again.
Yep - here's the listing for the delayed broadcast... http://www.setanta.com/us/TV-Listings/ Setanta Sports (US) Friday 12:15 am Chelsea TV - Carling Cup Chelsea vs QPR (1st Air) So, there's that. But it's on two days later and after midnight. Plus, Scum TV programs are not available on Setanta's Internet service - so you have to get it through cable/satellite. I'll probably make do with the extended highlights through the Rs site. I'm really surprised at Sky's choices for this week. Leeds-Liverpool over West Brom-Arsenal (I'd rather watch the latter). And boring Wolves vs Manchester United's third team. Oh well.
UUURRRs! Updates appreciated -- can't access the audio at work (or at home for the next week or two -- computer is in the shop!).
UUUUURRRRRRRRRRRs! Teams should be out any minute now. I'm pretty swamped here at work, but will definitely be listening and relaying the important news...
Chelsea vs QPR Chelsea: Hilario, Ivanovic, Paulo Ferreira, Hutchinson, Belletti, Malouda, Zhirkov, Mikel, Joe Cole, Borini, Kalou Subs: Turnbull, Ashley Cole, Essien, Lampard, Matic, Terry, Bruma QPR: Heaton, Borrowdale, Stewart, Leigertwood, Gorkss, Routledge, Rowlands, Faurlin, Buzsaky, Vine, Simpson Subs: Cerny, Ramage, Mahon, Agyemang, Pellicori, Ephraim, Taarabt Referee: Mike Jones (Cheshire)
Guessing that's... -----------------Heaton------------------ Leigertwood--Stewart--Gorkss--Borrowdale Routledge---Rowlands---Faurlin---Buzsaky --------------Vine--Simpson-------------- Faurlin comes in for the Cup tied Watson. Big night for Tom Heaton.
Leigertwood at right back, I guess? Faurlin and Buzsaky in the center of midfield with Rowlands and Routledge out wide? Edit: I see you've already taken a stab at the lineup. It'll be interesting to see where Buzz and Rowly line up.
At Cardiff, Magilton had Leggy at right back and Rowly in the middle. Rowlands was MOTM in that role - so I'm guessing he'll stay there. And Buzz has been playing (out of position) on the left when he's gotten starts - including Cardiff.
Hmm - "Player" commentary looks to be all f-ed up. I'm listening (for the moment) via BBC London... http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/playlive/bbc_london/
Scoreless after 10 minutes. Fairly regular updates can be heard here http://www1.talksport.net/talksport-liveUK_LL.asx Apparently it's a pretty open match. Couple Chelsea chances
Got audio - thanks to a BBC link http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/london/hi/front_page/newsid_8255000/8255287.stm Try that, Atouk - you might have a shot at that stream
Great run from Routledge finds Buzz who tries to curl one in - misses high and wide. But good stuff. Rangers fans making a hell of a racket!
