    Dallas forward will undergo surgery

    [ESPN.com news services]

DALLAS -- Dallas Burn forward Ronald Cerritos suffered a season-ending knee injury in Thursday's match against the MetroStars.

An MRI taken Friday revealed that Cerritos suffered a tibial platau fracture, an MCL sprain and a lateral meniscus injury in his right knee. The injury occurred as Cerritos, running toward a high pass, attempted a mid-air flick. As he came down, his knee struck the knee of MetroStars midfielder Nelson Akwari, who was running by Cerritos at the time.

Cerritos is tentatively scheduled for surgery on Sept. 10.

Cerritos, who scored the Burn's lone goal in last night's match, was the fourth-leading scorer on the team with four goals and six assists for 14 points in 23 games. He had scored four goals and added three assists in the Burn's last 11 matches.

Galaxy's Ruiz honored as Player of the Week
NEW YORK -- Los Angeles Galaxy forward Carlos Ruiz, who scored a hat trick in a victory over the MetroStars, was named MLS Player of the Week on Tuesday.

In his first MLS season, Ruiz is the league's top scorer with 20 goals and one assist for 41 points. He became only the sixth player in MLS history to capture the weekly honor three or more times in a single season.

Ruiz also earned the weekly honor in Weeks 1 and 3 in March-April.

Ruiz scored goals in the fourth, 23rd and 83rd minute in the 3-0 win, sending Los Angeles into the MLS Cup playoffs for the seventh consecutive year. Los Angeles is tied with the first-place San Jose Earthquakes atop the MLS playoff table.

Nicknamed "El Pescalido," the striker beat out D.C. United goalkeeper Nick Rimando to win the award.

today cerritos was on a plane for san jose- california

the doctors in Dallas could not agree on his problem, and did not want to risk an operation without other specialist view.

ronald decided to see a well known doctor, from the earthquakes days.....

Chacon plays for NE. Well, he's on NE. For some reason Nicol doesn't play him often.

Quintanilla has been playing pretty well for DC, although he certainly has a way to go before he will have a solid starting spot. However, he's started in their last two wins over the Metrostars, and has acquitted himself admirably.

Reyes has been an absolute terror for DC on the right side. He's been one of the few bright spots for them this season.

jocon reyes is the only player in dc united that deserves vacations, the rest should need to practice naked during the 5 months break!

quintanilla was fine today, I hope the keep him for 2003.....

chacon pineda and serna, were lethal in 2001, now they do not even get yellow carded!

gran finale for the last spot in playoffs: revs vs metros, may be they get some time to celebrate.
