Isn't it interesting that Memo Vazquez wanted Villa for Pumas. If only Cruz Azul had waited until they had a coach before dumping Villa off. And now supposedly we are looking for another forward. Note to Quintano - we had a forward and you didn't sign him. Now we'll either a) Bring in some foreign forward who may or may not work out, or b) pay serious cash to bring in a local forward who'll probably stop producing once he has a guaranteed paycheck We should have signed Villa.
List of transferibles which doesnt include any big names only player known thats leaving is Edixon Perea http://www.record.com.mx/article/cruz-azul-anuncia-lista-de-transferibles
Wow! Colombia defender Luis Amaranto Perea has joined http://www.mediotiempo.com/futbol/mexico/noticias/2012/06/13/amaranto-perea-refuerzo-de-cruz-azul
Also Argentina striker Mariano Pavone joined..another good signing http://www.mediotiempo.com/futbol/mexico/noticias/2012/06/09/pavone-un-tanque-para-la-maquina
I like the Perea signing. We've been needing a strong central defender for quite a while. This Pavone signing is a bit baffling and I think it really shows that the problem Quintano had with Villa was not soccer related but more personal. No problem with Pavone himself but it strikes me as odd that we get rid of a 30 year old Argentinian attacker who is a proven commodity in the MFL with a 31 year old Argentinian attacker who may or may not work out here. And I really doubt Pumas was able to pay Villa more than what Cruz Azul was willing to shell out. So hopefully Pavone will work out but the fact is we don't know. It will be interesting to see who scores more goals Villa or Pavone. This is assuming of course that Pavone gets with the team in time to start the season instead of joining in week 2 and taking a few more weeks to get used to his new teammates. It's also interesting how Billy Alvarez and Quintano differ in their assessments of why Cruz Azul didn't do much during the latest draft. Here's Billy's take - And here's Quintano's take - So was it about money or not? And one more quote from Billy regarding Villa's departure Anybody think Pavone will score 54 goals in 3 years? Hopefully he will and I'll be hoping he does but we've had a slew of forwards that have failed (hey Bravo, how's it going?) so as usual, all we can do is hope, wait, and see.
Billy Álvarez asegura que Pablo Barrera ya es jugador de Cruz Azul. http://t.co/X60noRLs— DIARIO RÉCORD (@record_mexico) June 26, 2012
So much for Quintano's assertion that we don't have money. Who still believes not signing Villa was a money thing? Don't misunderstand, it's obviously not my money and I definitely want us to have the best players available, but I see this Barrera signing as a waste unless his money expectations went way down. Apparently there are "incentives" and other clauses in the contract so hopefully these are performance based. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/s...winger-barrera-return-to-pablo-mexico?cc=5901
I don't think we payed the 10 mil some reporters were throwing around. I read he was sold for $3, so it's likely we payed that for him. This probably means Aquino will spend more time on the bench. They're both very similar in style. Perea fap fap fap We need his leadership in the backline I don't no much about Pavone CAZ will play vs Leon, Pumas, Pachuca in a tournament starting today. http://www.clubleon-fc.com/noti04.php
wow. well, if that's true, I'm doubly confused as to why you wouldn't throw more money at Villa to keep him. Quintano is the guy that keeps saying we don't have the money to buy players.
