Obvously Bolillo has been playing different CB's in our friendlies as of yet. Most using Yepes with another pair.

However I want to know this sub forum's idea of our CB duo for Copa America

    I chose Yepes-Mosquera.

I think both players are in excellent form, and both play realistically consistent on the national team.

Yepes-Zapata for Copa America as Yepes really doesn't have much time left but god did he have a sick game yesterday. He is our best defender but is sooooooooo slow, Zapata's current form at Udinese his age and skill makes him our #2. Why play Perea, Cordoba, or Aquivaldo over Zapata who is as good if not better but also a good 5-6 years younger.

Zapata also has played the most matches and has started more games at club team than any of these guys in the past 4 years.

i said zapata-mosquera only b/c i don't know if Yepes can handle the physical rigors of playing in a copa america tournament where 3 games are played within 8 days.

same goes for a player like cuadrado who doesn't feature much at the club level.

When a few years back, one went to Mexico and the other to Italy, I envisioned the duo Mosquera-Zapata as the logical and natural heirs of Cordoba and Yepes. At some point I tought that the transition was going to be relatively smooth, but between Pinto's and, Lara reluctance towards Zapata, the failure of Mosquera at Sevilla and the resurgence of Yepes, the generational change has been delayed at least after Copa America.

I think that eventually both of them Zapata and Mosquera will lead our defense in the WC14 and WC18 cycles, but I would like for the NT to find a faster alternative that could alternate with both when the situation calls for it.

Zapata-Pedro Franco/Leiton JImenez or another up and comer

I prefer to keep Yepes around than bring back Mosquera guy is done and is will be 30 this year. We shouldnt have passed on the guy who plays for poland

Crazed you are too quick to label players sometimes....

His "failure" at Sevilla had more to do with playing out of position and the team looking for scapegoats on his failure to be up top on La Liga...

From what I've seen and read of lately he is back in fine form and is at least as respectable option as Leiton or Henriquez... Franco is good but too green for this WCQ round... Maybe for the next.... Age wise Yepes is having a great season and he just turned 35, I agree that Mosquera might be a tad old for WC18, but nonetheless CBs seem to last longer than midfielders and forwards, only goalies outlive them on the soccer field...

Just look at Nesta, or Paolo Maldini, or Gallas, or even Puyol!

nesta is an injury waiting to happen - i don't think he ever lasted an entire world cup campaign.

Maldini is a legend - one of the greatest of all time. he probably could still play right now if he wanted to.

puyol up until this injury has been a beast his whole career and will probably see less games as he grows older into the 30s.

gallas is at the twighlight of his career

    i get your point though.

my big concern about Yepes, and i've mentioned it a few times but with no response from anyone is how will Yepes handle playing 3 games in 8 days for the copa america. that's a daunting task for anyone, especially someone in their mid 30s.

juan veron couldn't handle playing in the copa regularly for argentina and was only injury free for 1 or 2 games in the past world cup.

i fear the same for yepes.

Gotta give the guy credit though. Was fantastic, not just in defense but leading the line fwd from the back. Really gave the team confidence.

Re: CB Duo mario a and amaranto in feb.?

reason why we have 2 subs for that area: zapata lately and possible IRC....

Yepes is also the captain.....interesting if he is not there for copa america, I feel that only injuries will keep him from that spot.

    With all due respect.

Yepes is 35 not 85. I'm sure he can handle 3 games in 8 days, just like he sometimes have to deal with a league then 2-3 days later deal with a cup game. Then flying to an international friendly. While during those "off days" he is training to stay fit.

I like Yepes to start, but I prefer that the 2nd CB has to have more pace than Yepes to cover for Yepes lack of pace.

Not entirely confident on Perea although his presence with the combination of Yepes keeps the team Mature and confident. Specially with our Dayro's, Rodallega's, Teofilo's characters.

I would also like to mention that Pablo Armero is an class player, he brings so much chemistry to this team on and off the field.

Yes, and it helps that the games would be against teams like Bolivia and an ambiguous Japan team that may not have many regular starters. (Argentina would be hard though for him I imagine.)

I am confident he has something left in the tank for the Copa America, but after that we are in big trouble.

Like a wise man once said. One step at a time. ;)

I'm sure slowly once Yepes age is starting to show more consistently, we'll add in Zapata into the mix

We have to remember that for every game Yepes plays like he did against Spain he plays games like he did against South Africa and Chile in which he fouls and tackles players with bad timing giving up freekicks and opportunities on goal that are very dangerous.'

Or he plays mediocre like he did in the last Copa America.

He has lost his consistency and that is what makes me weary about him most.

Re: CB Duo, MARIO ALBERTO Y AMARANTO

I just want to jugde the captiaN, for the last game vs spain and the last time with milan...

Re: CB Duo, MARIO ALBERTO Y AMARANTO

Copa America 2007 Yepes had just come back from an injury were he basically should have never played soccer again. He was healing and not match fit. Also Pique would look like shit next to LAP and IRC especially with the crap from they had at that Copa America.

What is more important is for Zapata to play everyone else should start seeing the door but out of them Yepes is the best so he should start. Over 30 and your time is almost up. So Mosquera at 29 soon to be 30, LAP at 31, Cordoba at 34. Its not really like its a big difference. Depending on how Henriquez does in Copa America he is an option too

hopefully his fitness will be strong enough to handle 3 games in 8 days. the only way he'll be there is if he's the regular CB for milan by the end of the season....

that's going to be critical for players like Cuadrado and Yepes and to a lesser extent Guarin who has been getting increased playing time at Porto the past 2 months.

Over 30 and your time is up?

But 35 and he should be the starter....

More important than age, should be the level that they show prior to Copa America...

For Yepes the main differences seem to be Health and Playing time... The same way we didn't clearly see why he was starting at NT when he was not seeing any minutes at AC Milan, now it is clear that he should be counted on for Copa America...

After these two issues, 3 games in 8 days is the least of my worries...

Regarding the other players, it is clear that Perea and IRC should be replaced sooner than later. You want huevos and berraquera? Check out a guy playing 70 minutes with a broken face bone...

I think that we can make a good case about Aquivaldo, especially with his experience and his long range passes... Henriquez I like, but he will have to show something really special in this Libertadores...

After this core group I would focus on a couple of youngster, preparing for whatever happens after 2014...

in that case, amaranto will have not problem to make it!!

fitness under euro coaches for 3 games in 8 days - not a problem.

To tell you the truth, Efer, I do have a problem with Amaranto. I don't understand why he cannot bring his ability from Atletico to the NT. I would consider him in the squad for the Copa, but not as a starter. Right now Zapata-Yepes are my fav, while I think Aquivaldo should get another chance.

I follow aquivaldo in mexie liga...week after week.... his last 2010 was bad....meaning BAD
he had a better start in 2011.....but, W Conde has more to offer at this time, not close to what amaranto - mario alberto o IRC
claro que zapata esta in the mix too!!
