    Two great defenders with similar styles, which is better?

    Are you serious? Which is better? Carvalho needs a few more years under his belt just before we can even ask this question. Let's see what he does at Chelsea first before comparing him to Nesta.

    Nesta has been world class since 1998/99 season. He was near the top of the list in voting for the 2000 European player of the year, which is unheard of by a defender.

    You will not find a better central defender than Nesta, he is never under pressure and as cool as a cucumber.

    i'd have to agree, no one comes close to nesta at the moment. but carvalho is made of the same stuff, he would be one of the top 5 centre backs right now and i think he will step up at chelsea.

    Who's Nesta?

    I will take Luisao and Pope over Carvalho and Nesta :D

    Carvalho just reminds me of him in the way he plays. Cool and calm. Maybe not quite as good but pretty close I think. He was amazing in Euro2004, perhaps our best player.

    Carvalho looks good, he is going to be a good defender and has had a great year but give him time and let's see if he keeps playing at that level.

    Nesta on the other hand is still the world's #1, and he is not that old as he is only 27 at the moment.

    Italy has had 25 years of greatness in defence, simply world class.
    Baresa --> Maldini --> Nesta

    I don't know Frank when I was at Euro I got to see a lot of Carvalho and he by far was one of the best players on the field.
    Watching those games live a got a new appreciation for Carvalho, and Miguel for that matter as well. I was actually not a fan of either until I saw them both up close.

    Carvalho is as good now as Nesta was at his best!!!!! As Nesta is now he cannot even hope to compare himself with Ricardo Carvalho...

    Nesta is still at his best. Carvalho has a long way to go before they can compare. However Carvalho as he is still a very good defender. He needs to prove himself at Chelsea. He looked shaky yesterday.
