From available options, Thomas Tuchel seems the most rational choice. However I have some doubts about his ability to right the ship in the middle of the season, plus with his personality, there will be fun with management. Karl, Uli, Brazzo. Can think of him being in love with those.

I would wish for a reliable caretaker coach (probably not Willy), to keep us alive this season, then the new long-term coach can come and start rebuild the team from the summer. But it seems there is none. Jupp, can you be back from retirement one more time please?

I agree Tuchel would be a bold choice.

Obviously the loss of Sammer is a shame here - as with Pep he could have handled a lot of the political stuff

Would you guys have wanted Klopp?

I like him - but understand that with the BVB rivalry in recent years, it might have been a tough sell

I want our defense to improve significantly too, but also midfield, attack, coordination, positional play, intensity, pressing, movement ... All seems bad at the moment, and I don't know exactly why.

Lack of ideas. We never seemed to have a game plan with Carlo except for bring it up the wings and cross. Carlo seemed to really let the team figure it out and we lost the plot.

Tuchel will bring a high press which we are used to as well as possession. He will also have an idea of tactics and formations that will put the team in more dangerous position.

Would be great if true. Both Tuchel and Nangelsmann are interesting options but this is not the right time for them to jump in. Jupp would be the best choice to restore some stability and keep us alive until the end of the season. I still don’t believe in it though.

Confirmed. Jupp will take care of our beloved team. It was my no-hope wish a week ago, struggling to find any suitable name in this situation (how the hell did we get into this in the first place???) but now it comes true. You are so kind, so nice, so gentle to us Jupp!!!

Bayern are now in safe hands. I'm looking forward to see some funs back in the next months. Of course I don't expect any treble. If we still find ourselves turning on the TV during Champions League nights in March, and Bayern is still in contention for the Bundesliga come April and May, that would be quite an achievement. In term of result.

At least, concentration, organization, some tactical senses, and team work improvement can be expected. A good and stable foundation for the future. We have taken a big step backward since over a year.

Until then, we have a lot of time arguing about the next coach. Much better than to have to take the risk with them right now with this mess.

I perfectly understand. Jupp at Bayern is never a good news for BVB.

Be interesting to see how this turns out.

Jupp has huge political capital which obviously shields the front office from more fallout for a limited time.

On the other hand Jupp can't by himself solve some of the issues this team has.

For germany's sake I hope he can fix Mueller!

You're absolutely right. The reason I'm happy with his appointment is more about his ability to gather the group, bring back tactical organization, stability and team spirit, as well as reduce the FC Hollywood level. He is the best choice possible at the moment for us, we are not able to take any more risks.

Aside from that, I'm not expecting miracle from Jupp. He has his work cut out for him. A low moral team which seems to forget how to play proper football. Key players injured. Other key players in poor form. 5 pts to BVB in the league and 3pts to PSG in the Champions League sure don't help.

He really doesn't have any time. This week match vs Freiburg and vs Celtic next week will be crucial in determining the tone of his short era. Failure to get 2 wins would create an incredible pressure and a huge amount of obstacle ahead. Fortunately we will play them at home.

Then, at the end of October, 2 consecutive matches vs Leipzig, and an away trip to Celtic.

Really not easy for a start. Jupp will have to rely on his ability to motivate and bring togetherness. There is no way any tactical and system change can bring noticeable difference in such a short time.

If we survive until Christmas, with a short preparation in winter and Neuer's back, I will be more optimistic.

Some people are disappointed, but I think it was a very pragmatic choice.

I’d rather the FO be deliberate in the selection of the next long term coach and not rush into anything.

I agree with @Bazi that the bigger issue is the front office itself.

Carlo turned out to be a bad appointment incompatible with the club's longer term talent strategy, which has had bad knock on impact with the players the club invested in. Yet Carlo's weakness in league and squad development was obvious at the time.

So on the one hand as @honigstein argues, this buys time for a strategic appointment

But it also risks being another muddled 8 months.

    We shall see!
