Does anybody know the scores from yesterday and if the games were played? I heard Hurricane Gustav was affecting Grand Cayman. Unlike the Champions League game that was supposed be at Jamaica, I don't think it would be a big deal if this group needed to be postponed a few days.
According to this, http://www.royalgazette.com/siftology.royalgazette/Article/article.jsp?articleId=7d88f2730030005§ionId=60, the games were not played. The article makes it sound like they are not making the games up, which makes absolutely no sense.
I think they will try to play Today and Sunday : “So far we have had no word on the continuance of the Digicel Championship Cup. Our last word was that games would be played at 5:30pm and 7:30pm”, Francis went on to say. “Francis concluded, “As of 7:00am Cayman Time, the Bermuda National Team are all doing well and are safe, I will have a further updates in about three hours”. http://www.islandstats.com/sport.asp?sport=2&assoc=1&newsid=9241
Bermuda’s second match in the Digicel Champions Cup in Cayman, Bermuda lead 3 - 0 at half time. Reggie Lambe gave Bermuda the lead in the 27th minute. Damon Ming doubled the lead in the 37th minute, before Lambe made 3 - 0 on the stroke of half time. http://www.islandstats.com/sport.asp?sport=2&assoc=1&newsid=9244
Thats a great site, I used it for the first game Too bad they don't cover the other game too. Lambe just completed his hat trick, he could be a good player, hes currently playing for Ipswich Town's reserves. I bet Nusum gets one before the game is done as well
Cayman Islands 1 - 1 Antigua and Barbuda Saint Martin 0 - 7 Bermuda www.caribbeanfootballdatabase.com
9/1/2008 - Antigua & Barbuda and the hosts Cayman Islands advanced to the Second Round of the Digicel Caribbean Championship 2008, which is the qualifier to the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup™, after finishing first and second, respectively, in Group C held at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in Grand Cayman on Sunday. http://www.concacaf.com/view_article.aspx?id=4333 Cayman Island advanced according to CONCACAF but how do they rank the second placed teams when this group got 4 teams and the other groups got only three teams ?
I'm fairly sure they just gave the second place team in this group automatic advancement. If you looked at the CONCACAF website before this group started, it has a specific spot in the 2nd round that the second place team in this group would go while other 2nd round groups had a combination of possible 2nd place advancers. Looking at this from Grenada's perspective, they look to be in trouble as the unlucky 2nd place finisher. Each of the remaining two groups appears to have a weak opponent that the other two teams will be able to gain a nice goal differential. But I guess we will have to see since things haven't certainly not gone to plan so far with some of the stronger teams not bringing their best team.
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 3 - 1 Anguilla http://caribbeanfootballdatabase.com/matches/2008/saintvincentandthegrenadinesvsanguilla9172008.html
So Vincy Heat are waiting for the Group D outcome while Grenada are through to the next round (unless Anguilla beats Martinique at least 2 -0).
St Kitts/Nevis - Barbados 1-3 St Kitts/Nevis and Barbados to second round. Grenada qualified but St Vincent & the Grenadines are out. Second round : Group F : Guadeloupe (host) Martinique Cayman Islands Grenada Group G : Cuba (host) Netherlands Antilles Barbados Surinam Group H : Trinidad & Tobago (host) Guyana Antigua & Barbuda St Kitts/Nevis This should be the correct groups ?
Group F : Guadeloupe (host) Martinique Cayman Islands Grenada Winners of this group will play in Haiti's group in finals. Runners-up will play in Jamaica's group. Group G : Cuba (host) Netherlands Antilles Barbados Surinam Winners of this group will play in Haiti's group in finals. Runners-up will play in Jamaica's group. Group H : Trinidad & Tobago (host) Guyana Antigua & Barbuda St Kitts/Nevis Winners of this group will play in Jamaica's group in finals. Runners-up will play in Haiti's group. So, we could have a finals line up like this: GROUP A Haiti Guadeloupe Cuba Guyana GROUP B Jamaica Martinique Suriname Trinidad & Tobago
1st result from the 2nd stage, Group F in Guadeloupe Grenada 2-2 Martinique The other game this evening is Guadeloupe v Cayman Islands
I found something interesting today, Grenada have two players who have represented them, Dwane Lee and Dwayne Leo. I figured they can't be the same as Dwane Lee was an unused substitute for Kettering yesterday while Dwayne Leo played for Grenada. To complicate matters even more, they're both midfielders.
http://www.antilles-sport.com/ - sometimes has reports a few hours after the games (in French) for Martinique, Guadeloupe and French Guiana.
