"North American outsiders Canada, fresh in Abu Dhabi from their group-stage home base of Dubai, will have a stern test ahead if they are to best Burkina Faso and become the only men’s side from the Great White North to reach the Last Eight of a FIFA finals."

Canada plays Burkina Faso in a few hours...

    FT

    Canada 1 Burkina Faso 0

Canada is off to the QF! :D

Damn... I wish this game was on TV in Canada!

Apparently Alim Karim had to make a full stretch diving save late in the game to prevent the tying goal. Burkina Faso gives up their first goal of the tournament and it sends them home.

Canada will play the winner of Spain-Paraguay in the QF on Friday.

Canada will now play the winner of Spain-Paraguay.

Spain will be Canada's opponent in Fridays QF, after defeating Paraguay 1-0 with a Sergio Garcia goal in the 66th minute in todays Round of 16 match. Spain finished second in their group behind Argentina. Spain lost their first match 2-1 to Argentina, then defeated Mali 2-0 and Uzbekistan 1-0 to advance to the round of 16.

    Aupa Espana!

Live broadcast of Canada vs. Spain match

For those that haven't yet heard, the Q-F match between Canada & Spain will be shown on Rogers Sportsnet. This was just announced late this afternoon. The broadcast will be live in Ontario (9:00am) but I believe may be tape-delayed in other regions - check the Sporstnet.ca website to make sure of the time.

The previous 4 matches weren't televised in Canada, so this is a welcome change.

    Canada 1 Spain 1

Hume scored off of a wonderful 20-yard strike in the 53rd minute to tie the game.

    Extra-time has just started.

Spain wins 2-1 on a defensive mistake by Canada in extra-time.

Tough way to lose a game, but Canada had a fantastic run.

Spain also had a man sent off in the 70th minute.

Atiba Hutchinson was named to the WYC all-star team. Hume was named as sub (four players added by Technical Group if squad was 20 players).
