Ain't no president ever been re-elected in the middle of a serious recession or depression. Just ask Jimmy Carter, Herbert Hoover or Martin Van Buren how their re-election bids went down.

At this point, we can only hope that he infected every member of both houses. The goddam street gangs in Rio are enforcing a lockdown because their government will not. It's blatantly clear that most leaders are willing to take their chances with our lives in the hope that the economy does well enough to get them re-elected. Gangs in the Rio de Janeiro favelas have enforced a lockdown from 8pm tonight. This country is a chaotic mess. 50 "sovereign" entities, DC and territories like Puerto Rico, Guam, etc. all enforcing different rules and competing against one another for scarce resources. You have Hogan moving quickly in Maryland, Bowser a step behind and Northam getting lapped by the field. He finally got into step with Maryland and DC, but probably too late. As someone said, "I would have expected better from a doctor, makes me question the accreditation of the school that graduated him." I agree and I voted for the guy. You look at real leaders like Hogan, Cuomo, Newsom and DeWine and then look at the Orange Fraud and his VP who presided over an HIV epidemic in Indiana because he didn't believe it was morally correct to do needle exchanges and you just weep.
I keep reading stuff like this, but I don't see it in reality. People like the look of leadership of a person who talks slowly and doesn't necessarily answer questions, but has others to answer questions. In reality, there are not many differences between what is happening in DC, northern Virginia and Virginia as a whole and Maryland. Likewise, it ignores what legislatures have done ahead of the crisis. I completely agree that there should be more defined courses of action from the federal government right now and months in advance of where we are now. It should not be on localities and states to come up for their own guidance or attempt to find old practices from federal organizations. Likewise, it's incredibly dumb for states to potentially compete against each other for resources.
Well, here in Virginia until yesterday, the restaurant two blocks down the street from me was open for sit down breakfast and lunch. That wasn't possible in Maryland or DC yesterday. Also in Virginia, my daughter lives near a fitness center that was still letting folks in 10 at a time until yesterday as well. There is a difference in approach and, in my opinion, Northam dropped the ball.
The states are put into a position of having to compete with one another because there's no national leadership. What are you going to do as the leader of a state or county? Let your people go without? Nope, not how you get re-elected, so one state has demand for products and the next state realizing that they're behind on policy or the goods they need tries to play catchup. That's how they end up competing. Not the individual states or the governor's faults. The real problem with the states acting independently is that one state is responsible or a group of states are responsible and take better (because best has already sailed) courses of action while the surrounding states lag a little to a lot. So while the virus spread more slowly in the responsible states, the less responsible states will continue to have a problem and the infection curve will continue to be out of control or cases/treatment will overflow into the states that have been responsible. It's taken a lot to turn me, a moderate republican against the party, because I don't think the Dems have that much for me. Cheeto boy should have stuck to bankruptcy. He was good at it and a lot fewer people died on his watch.
Positive : https://www.espn.com/xfl/story/_/id...perations-lays-employees-no-plans-return-2021 won't have that tearing up the turf and painting lines. Negative : lost income revenue I guess.
The rich owners have managed to get some “work” out of their laborers even despite the pandemic so that’s good news for them! Yay rich people!
