Demos don't like the spanish guy if the President askes Ashcroft to stay 4 more I am sure he will stay. Maybe the demos would like him better ffor 4 more years. I like to see him stay

If he was nominated for the Sumpreme Court, it will get taken down (the Dems will fillabuster if it comes down to that) and any high profile nomination that fails is a body blow to the sitting administration. So if I was a Democrat, I would welcome Ashcroft's nomination as he will be defeated and it is far better than a getting a sleeper like Thomas on the bench (figurativly and literally speaking, of course).

I think the republicans can find 5 demo senators who reside in red states to vote just about anyone in, and override a fillabuster

Yeah, sure, he'll be missed. Remember how Texas teachers got paid bonuses for deliberately underreporting Houston's high school dropout rates, and how Paige totally ignored it because it allowed him to declare Houston school improvements a "miracle"?
