W's Cabinet Who stays? Who goes? Who gets promoted? I'm guessing Powell is out, with Condi Rice the likely successor in my mind. A horrible choice, but she will probably be it. Before the election, there was talk that Rummy and Ashcroft were going to leave or be asked to leave, but I don't know if that will hold up.
Re: W's Cabinet I'd like to see J.C. Watts from Oklahoma be involved this term. I really think he would make a great president down the line.
Re: W's Cabinet I heard Secretary of State is a tie between Reverend Falwell, Jimmy Swaggart, Creflo Dollar, and Stolichnaya
Re: W's Cabinet Gotta be Creflo Dollar. That way when Powell leaves the quoto will still be maintained.
Re: W's Cabinet If Colin Powell intends to resign as State I'd like to see Bush offer him Defense to keep him in the Cabinet...if he still leaves and Rummy goes then bring in Tommy Franks or Norman Schwarzkopf.
Re: W's Cabinet Powell won't go to the Pentagon, he wants out, he has zero influence in this Administration.
Re: W's Cabinet His lack of influence, if it even exists, is IMO not because of the man but because of the position. We're at war, so Bush listens to his Defense secretary more than his Secretary of State. FWIW, Michael Isacoff was on CNN earlier saying that he expected Powell to move to SecDef.
Re: W's Cabinet Powell should definitely go. He is completely inept. Not that that is a disqualification from the Bush adminstration.
Re: W's Cabinet I here there is a guy in an Iraqi prison who wants to be Secretary of Defense. Apparently he has a history of controlling Iraq.
On dKos this am: Ashcroft out, Guiliani in as Attorney General. If true, this would be a massive improvement provided that Rudy hasn't drunk too much of the Kool-Aid during the past six months.
Re: W's Cabinet CNN reporting that Ashcroft may resign: http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/11/04/election.main/index.html
Re: W's Cabinet Being that that Judge Moore fella would be even worse than Ashcroft, I fully expect Bush to pick Moore.
Re: W's Cabinet Yeah, I saw the note about Ashcroft potentially leaving and thought, "Well, that could be good." Then I thought, "Wait, what if they find someone even worse?"
I am not enamored with Rudy Giuliani, but he would be an improvement over Ashcroft. He was an aggressive prosecutor. Perhaps overly so, considering a lot of his high profile white collar crime convictions were overturned on appeal. It also would be replacing one of the scariest members of the fundamentalist right. If it happens, it's an improvement.
I have not heard Rummy or Rice. Thompson is a no-brainer; even if you think his HHS policies are wonderful, he's been a crappy spokesperson for them. That would be a "pursuing other interests" departure.
People in DHS are talking about Ridge. He'll probably be gone soon enough. He's been butting heads over funding for awhile now. remember its the same DHS that Bush didn't even want after 9/11
