Spurs horror show heads north to take on Sean Dyche's Burnley at Turf Moor. Mourinho is already getting in his excuses, claiming the players are fatigued and he will not be able to prioritize the match Saturday and the second leg of our CL tie vs. Leipzig. He also made the ridiculous claim that our defence was solid and compact against the Canaries (insert hilarious laughter here). Maybe he was spending his time coaching the ball boys, but Norwich looked like they could score every time they came forward. I'm just not having that from a man who is getting paid £15 million a year and from a chairman who aspires Spurs "to be one of the greatest clubs in the world". Guess what? If you expect to play CL football every season and compete for trophies, you are going to be playing 3 games a week. Jose of all people should know this. Burnley is a good signpost for our troubles. It was a 2-1 loss in this fixture last season (Feb. 23rd 2019) that began the rot that we have never reallly come out of. And it was our 5-0 win over the Clarets in the reverse fixture which is the last match I can remember where we outplayed the opposition over the full 90 minutes.
every team in the League must love the prospects of facing us right now. if you're struggling, we're just what the doctor ordered. and if you're going fairly well (as Burnley are), you've gotta feel like you'll be able to dictate the play. I dread matchdays anymore.
just got back from north Manchester (Indiana), where I saw Sheffield Wednesday absolutely hammered by Brentford. turned on the telly just in time to see Spurs go down a goal to Burnley. gonna be a seriously shitty day.
I wonder if there’s a run of results that would see Mourinho get sacked at the end of the season. If so losing to Burnley surely has to be part of that run so … go Burnley?
we were outplayed in the first half in every aspect of the game. beaten to everything. at least changes have been made. Lo Celso and Moura on for Ndombele and Skipp, who were, frankly, utter shite. here we go.
Spurs on the front foot, but no cutting edge. Speculative efforts from well outside the box are all we're showing for it.
Again poor team selection and tactics from Jose as we got pummeled in the first half. A combination of Sanchez, Dier and Lloris errors led to the Burnley goal - why Dier is playing centre back is beyond belief (the fastest I've seen him move all season was to jump into the stands to chase that idiot supporter). Mourinho just wants the team to sit back and not press, which meant Burnley were able to pass the ball from their defense to midfield (which was how they scored their goal). He also had no plan for countering their big threat down the left in young McNeil, who had a field day against Tanganga and Sanchez on our right flank. That's a few times now he's tried a back 3 and it's failed miserably. When we pressed them and went to a back 4 in the 2nd half it was a different game. Also interesting to note was Jose called out Ndombele in his post match interview. Yes, he was shite, but playing him in a 2 with Oliver Skipp is not exactly optimal. Bottom line, it's still a poor result and half-performances against sides like Burnley are unacceptable but the new norm under Mourinho.
