3 - In FC Bayern, Borussia Dortmund and Union Berlin, three teams are tied on points at the top after matchday 21 of the #Bundesliga - the first time this has happened at such a late stage of the season since the introduction of 3-points per win. Exciting.— OptaFranz (@OptaFranz) February 19, 2023
I'm afraid this is the end of the road for Eintracht Frankfurt. Chin up, Eagles. You made it to the knock-out stage from a pretty tough group.
Yep, probably facing the most in form team in Europe right now. Felt they had some good moments, Kamada should have scored but at the same time Trapp was excellent so overall a step too far. No disgrace in last 16 exit in first CL season. Elsewhere I see Liverpool conceded 5 at home to Real lol. Very bad 7th season for Klopp again.
Well, Klopp's track record speaks for itself. The 7th season marks the point where the Klopp era comes crashing down.
Leverkusen actually hold their nerve when it counts. Scored 5/5 pk’s v Nubel. Volland scored his for Monaco. Union lead 1-0 v Ajax, Knoche pk.
Good job from Leverkusen and Alonso. Great for the coefficient. Monaco scored two wonder goals in the end of the first leg. I doubt they were better than Leverkusen. Terrible job from Nuebel on Diaby’s penalty. He doesn’t seem to have the forearms/wrists to go back and start for Bayern.
coefficient is irrelevant since Ligue 1 isn't gonna catch up anyways. 1BL isn't going anywhere from top 4. good job Alonso?? more like good job Wirtz, LOL.
Union up 2-0. Assist by Haberer. Union taking out Ajax is bigger news than Bayer doing so to Monaco. curious to how Freiburg will do in EL.
Ligue 1 is so bad CL -Marseille=GS OUT, 4th place=OUT perm -PSG=currently one foot out of door in R16 EL -Nantes=OUT -Monaco (failed in CL Qualifiers so got dumped to EL)=OUT -Rennes=On track for OUT, ongoing basically Ligue 1 is on track for every single club going out, LMAO. Ligue 1 is just a dev league. They mass produced Frenchies and that's basically it. then Eredivisie will look bad if both Ajax and PSV go out today. Although Ajax have scored so down 2-1 vs Union.
and Union makes it 3-1 and Ajax really is gonna join PSV and go out this early. imagine 2 biggest clubs in Netherlands going out so early.
Ajax lost their best players and their world-class coach in the summer. They’ve struggled all season. PSV lost Gakpo and played against Sevilla. So it was expected that they would get knocked out. Van Nistelrooy is an inexperienced coach. It’s a tough season for Dutch football.
Unfortunately Ter Stegen is too short. A taller goalkeeper like Neuer, Oblak or Courtois would have saved Antony’s shot.
In hindsight, Dortmund should have done everything in their power to appoint Ten Hag as their coach. He’s doing a fantastic job right now. Dortmund would have been like 5 points ahead of this poor Bayern team.
LOL Barcelona are out in EL. Last season got dumped out by Frankfurt and this season Man U. Lewa leaves Bayern -Gets dumped in CL to 3rd place by Bayern -out in EL to Man U well at least he's on track for La Liga trophy and La Liga top scorer.
I would also like to remind everyone the the only CL title won by a Ligue 1 club was done through dodgy means.
I'm okay with that as it gave Rudi Voller a CL medal. and Rennes are out too and this now leaves PSG as only Ligue 1 team left, LMAO.
Olynpique de Marseille are the only French club that has won the CL (1993), but their triumph has been forever tainted when a few weeks after said final it emerged they bribed Valenciennes to lose in their Ligue 1 match a week prior to the CL final, as Bernard Tapie, then-owner of the club, wanted his team to be well-rested for the CL final. As punishment for the scandal, OM were relegated to the second division and UEFA banned them from participating in the 1993-94 CL campaign, the only time the reigning European Champions weren't allowed to defend their title. They weren't stripped of their CL title though, because they only cheated domestically.
Pretty manageable ties for Union and Leverkusen, Freiburg v Juve is obviously tougher but if they play at their best Freiburg are capable of matching most teams. Seems strange that their reward for winning their group is a much tougher tie then the other two who didn’t do so well in the gs.
