I would select the following team of foreing players from 40 years of Bundesliga:

    --------------Sandberg (Swe)----Elber (Bra)----Simonsen (Den)

    -------------Keegan (Eng)-------Lerby (Den)------Marcelinho (Bra)

    ---Lizarazu (Fra)----Pezzey (Aut)----M.Olsen (Den)----Jusufi (Yug)

    ----------------------------Pfaff (Bel)

Interesting topic. I'm not sure Marcelinho has done enough to merit inclusion on your list. How about Balakov? Don't know a darn thing about Sandberg, but Tony Yeboah has to merit some consideration at striker, as must Chapuisat (and if you are going to include Marcelinho, how about Makaay and Ailton and Sand). At defender, how about Winton Rufer (sp?), the Kiwi who played for Bremen?

Wynton Rufer and if I remember correctly he was a striker as well.

And I totally agree with you, Wolfsburgh, Tony Yeboah is a must in this squad. Also I am with you on Sandberg. Who is that guy?

He played for 'Lautern in the 70's.

To my eternal shame, I completely forgot Tony Yeboah! And Krassimir Balakov!

Sandberg was a great Swedish striker, he also played in the 1974 World Cup. Still, he was not as good as Yeboah, Elber or Simonsen, thus: out!

    New lineup:

    -----------------Elber (Bra)----Yeboah (Gha)----Simonsen (Den)

    -------------Keegan (Eng)------Lerby (Den)-------Balakov (Bul)

    ---Lizarazu (Fra)----Pezzey (Aut)----M.Olsen (Den)----Jusufi (Yug)

    ----------------------------Pfaff (Bel)

What about some recent players like Rosicky (BVB) and Hleb (Stutt) if we are considering Ailton...?

What do you think of Simak? he wasn't long here, but was for sure the best soccer player 96 ever had!

I would pick Cha Boom as a winger.

If I`d consider a 96-player, then it would be Josip Skoblar, not Simak (he didn`t play that well in the 1. Bundesliga).

I`m not sure if Rosicky would be worthy of this team. Talentwise yes, but his attitude is lacking. Hleb is too early, I wouldn`t want to throw out Keegan, Balakov, or Lerby to get him in (yet). Maybe if he leads Stuttgart to the BL title (he could get Balakov`s place in the future).

Simonsen for sure as he was Euro player of the year with Moenchengladbach and Keegan with Hamburger SV won it twice. I also wonder if Bum Kun Cha with Eintracht Frankfurt would be in the group.

That's pretty amazing if it's true. West Germany was very strong back then.

    My two cents:
    Pfaff
    Lucio, Olsen, Lizarazu
    Lerby, Balakow, Dunga, Keegan
    Yeboah, Elber, Chapuisat

Maybe there were better guys, but I stock to those, which I saw play (except for Keegan :( )

Rune Bratseth as sweeper and Kiwi Rufer as striker should be in the lineup. Also Stan Libuda in midfield and Toni Polster as forward. I also always loved Valdas Ivanauskas. The team should be coached by Ernst Happel and Dragoslav Stepanovic.

Libuda was german. And Ivanauskas really sucked! Was a good fighter and a funny guy, but couldn't find the net...
And what did Stepanovic acchieve? Happel and Zebec would be my choice as coaches.
