Is it lack of talent coming out or? Can we blame Mancini that much?

Italy isn’t producing the level of talent that they should. Mancini dropped the ball. Both of these are true

Whatever your assessment of Italian talent, we had enough to at least beat north Macedonia. The fact that we didn’t score one goal in 90 is on the coach

Mancini chose to ride the Immobile wave to the bitter end when it was clear he wasn’t the guy 4 years ago. He had this hope that he’d magically start banging them in

Mancini is a lot to blame. When things are going great.. they're great. But when they are not.. he's stubborn with his player selection and formation/game plan.

Partially to blame is the Serie A teams who bring in foreigners and dont listen to @falvo to play i giovani. The Italian youth teams perform well with their international peers.. but there is a disconnect on how to transition these players in the senior NT, as protagonists in Serie A, etc etc.

Partially to blame... injuries and overall fatigue of the squad. A lot of these guys look spent. Barella is the biggest example.. looks like hes still running on fumes.

no excuses though... should be able to beat Macedonia with a 3rd choice Italy team. we deserve whats coming to us. we will take our lumps and rebuild.

Besides losing which sucks the most was the english language commentators applauding "brave" macedonia for playing tight defense after listening to english language commentators complain about catenaccio for 30 years

Yes, Mancini was wrong to insist on Insigne (he's lost 2 steps now..not just one) and Immobile...same old choke artist and getting older.

But, someone on here said that Serie A teams are just focusing on CL, EL, and Serie A. Well if they are focusing on CL and EL, they are doing a shitty job of it. We routinely are getting our asses handed to us in Europe. Gone are the days when our clubs had the best players in the world. We lack infrastructure, investment, youth development...the list goes on and on.

If it wasn't for Sassuolo, where would we be? Heck, even shitty Venezia is pretty much made up of all foreigners. The net result of all of this is that we lack DEPTH. Spina goes down? No one has yet to replace him. Di Lorenzo out? Nothing behind him. Bonucci out? Bastoni gave him the header that led to the fluke goal.

In the 80s and 90s we could have fielded 4 VERY competitive national teams. Now, we can barely field one. The Bosman rule was certainly a killer for us, but the broken Italian economy, corruption, and lack of investment in facilities and youth programs is sucking the life out of us.

We better change...and change quick...or Euro 2021 may be the last celebration we have for a long long time.

Today is an epic failure. The English will have fun with it. The Macedonians will have fun with it. And they deserve to, and we deserve to be ridiculed.

But in the end, only one team can win the World Cup. Those laughing at us now will most likely fail in due time. Some sooner than others.

What we must do is accept our embarrassment and work to correct it. Stay out of the spotlight and work to improve serie a standards. Admit things are wrong and do our best to remain humble. And honestly, stop rooting for the clubs who could care less about the national team. Everyone knows who these teams are. They are equally as embarrassing in their own European competitions.

One blatant offender is Udinese. I don’t think they have a single Italian player on their roster other than goalies. They’re 14th in the table…

Bonucci has only played 1 world cup game in his entire career. That's pretty crazy.
