As I did last year, I'll post all the news and results from the Western New York soccer scene. This includes the Big Four (area D-1 schools Buffalo, Canisius, Niagara, and St. Bonaventure) as well as some other local teams of interest (emerging D-3 teams like Medaille College). Here is a preview of the upcoming season from the Buffalo News: http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/story/153671.html Medaille gets top billing since they went 20-1-1 in 2006 and was the only local team to reach the NCAA tournament (except for Niagara's women). The article has one factual error, Buffalo's goalkeeper, Daniel Bell, was granted an extra year of eligibility from the NCAA and will be back (though he's injured at the moment). In any case, here's some results from the opening weekend: Buffalo (0-1, 0-0 MAC) * lost to Fairfield 1-0 * plays Fairleigh Dickinson today Canisius (0-1, 0-0 MAAC) * lost to UConn 3-2 * hosts Robert Morris today Niagara (0-0, 0-0 MAAC) * kicks off season today vs. Cleveland St. St. Bonaventure (1-0, 0-0 A-10) * beat Cleveland St. 3-1 Medaille (2-0, 0-0 AMCC) * beat Defiance College 6-0 * beat Bethany College 4-2 Also of note, Daemen College (a local NAIA school) won the Buffalo State All-America Classic by beating host Buffalo State 2-1 and Hilbert 1-0 (OT).
