    4. Jaime Moreno, MetroStars. If the MetroStars are going to climb back into the playoff picture, Moreno needs to return to his form of 1996-2000... If pre-season is an indicator, Moreno is ready. While the Metros have not been able to put a first-choice midfield behind him, Moreno has still been setting the tone for the club in training, and has shown that the skill and the desire are still there.

    2. Eddie Pope, MetroStars. If Tim Howard is not going to face a league-high number of shots again this season, that’ll probably mean that Pope was a great pickup for the Metros. If Howard is again called upon to perform miracles, it’ll probably mean that Pope (who’s missed on average more than 10 regular season games per year due to injuries and national team call-ups) could not stay on the field…again. In pre-season, Pope seems to have staked his claim to the MetroStars captaincy and is being called upon to organize and lead a defensive unit that has a lot to prove.
