Phil Gartside has yet again raised the spectre of the two tier Premier League, which would include Rangers and Celtic, as well as limited promotion between the Prem 2 and the football league. This follows on from Wanderers yearly accounts which were published this week. It shows that the debt is increasing and that at present rate it is unsustainable. It should be noted that we're not the only club in this position, much of the middle order of the Prem is under the same financial strain. Last season we finished 13th, which in relation to the wages we pay compared to the rest of the Premier League was a slight over achievement. Our wage bill currently stands at around £40 million and the debt is now at £64 million. Eddie Davies has made several loans to the club and has taken £2 million back in fees, it should be noted however that a good portion of the debt is owed to Davies and not to the banks. This should provide us with a small financial safety net as he's unlikely to recall the debts at short notice.

I have now fallen to the dark side, I am for a two teir Premier League and if the reconfiguration includes Celtic and Rangers (the latter of whom is in dire financial straits) then so be it. More needs to be done to protect Premier League clubs that drop down the league, it would also provide more exposure the the second tier and potentially more TV money.
