    As per Ives:

"Glasgow Rangers has grabbed the unofficial title of Team America on Wednesday after making U.S. national team captain the second American to sign with the Scottish club champions on Wednesday.

Bocanegra joins Rangers via transfer from St. Etientte, and could be in action as soon as Thursday. His signing came on the same day Rangers announced the acquisition of U.S. national team midfielder Alejandro Bedoya.

Bocanegra, Bedoya and Maurice Edu will now team up to try and help Rangers advance in Europa League as well as win another Scottish League title.

With three U.S. players on the books, Rangers has the most Americans of any European squad."

Were they paying Boca peanuts in France?

the SPL benefits too much from these two top teams. and it attracts our players to a career of injuries!

Did he need to speak English that bad. Unless he is getting paid some serious money, this is one of the dumbest moves he could of made. He was just appointed captain of a team that has started out very decently.

Maybe getting a three year deal at 32 played a part in his decision.

Dumb move. Not high on Bedoya going there, but makes even less sense for Boca. We now have three americans there, and I was hoping for none. Wanted Edu to go to France. Oh well, its not my knees which will take the beating.

To settle some unanswered questions in the prior thread...

    - Do Rangers see Charlie primarily as a CB or LB?

    - Was this a quick move they made because Danny Wilson is uncertain to return?

What's the deal here Gers fans, I haven't been paying close attention.

Not your bank account either. Rangers prolly pay better than most french teams. Boca didnt go for the better league.

Who is the 3rd? Not that I trust Wikipedia at all (don't tell my students I'm referencing it) but they list 2 Yanks on their squad.

if were going all ages, FC Nurnberg has at least 5 Americans. then again Tigres probably has around 10-15.

Ah, they list him as Canadian. I see he was born in the US but grew up in British Columbia.

We are only talking about European teams and not including lower youth levels - first team only.

So with regards to that, it's Rangers and IFK Mariehamn for the lead.

In the other thread, I, too, wondered why he'd make the lateral move w/ significant monetary increase the only reason I could think of. If he got a guaranteed three years at the same or more money, then I understand the move. Sorta.

Still. It seemed to come out of nowhere and fast.

Probably more money for a longer timeframe too. These guys have limited career lengths so I don't blame them for trying to get the most $ while they can. He's already accomplished a lot in his career, now he can win a lot of games and hopefully some trophies while picking up more cash.

well there's no doubt Boca can do a really good job in Scotland for the full 3 years of the contract.

Surprised really, given the captain's armband at Rennes, a strong club in a strong league. Always thought he'd come to MLS after his Rennes contract was up
