I've been a close observer of the summer transfer market, and i'm noticing a phenomenum.

This season Chelsea is having it terribly hard to sign a world class player.
They dont have any special need in any position EXCEPT atack.
Defense is perfect, and chelsea even bought an extra left back.
Midfield is perfectly good unless big injuries happen, so maybe another winger will come. Also of course Mourinho wouldnt mind having Gerrard too since he's world class, charismatic, and english, a player that gives the group something extra.

Atack - the big problem. Last season Drogba wasnt bad, but not up to the 35 million euros. This season chelsea is trying all to get the player they badly need. The thing is, a regular good atacker wouldnt bring anything new. To add value to the team it has to be a world class player.

Real didnt have a problem getting world class players every season. They convinced Figo to switch sides for 60 million euros!! They bought Zidane in his prime for 75 million euros from Juventus!! They bought Ronaldo for another 60 million from Inter!!
Barcelona also bought Ronaldinho, Milan bought Shevshenko,...

But Chelsea tried Adriano, Shevshenko, Trezeguet, Owen, Gillardino, ... And even tought offers of 70 and 100 million euros, the clubs wont sell. Why? They did sell to other clubs. Why dont they sell to chelsea? Are they afraid that this team can become unbeatable, and all the major clubs are intransigent to sell their major players even for astronomic fortunes? Are they "abusing" of chelsea's financial power demonstrated these 2 seasons, and now they will only expect outrageous offers, way off the player value or else be intransigent?
Which world class forward is there left for chelsea to buy?

Look at the strikers we're after - they're from top European teams. Why move from, say, Juve, to Chelsea? Or Milan? Or Barca? The other clubs aren't selling right now, that's all. There's no conspiracy.

Exactly. Still Real Madrid signed the players they wanted. Why cant chelsea do the same when they only want a forward?

I dont call it a conspiracy, but i think that currently a club that would sell a player for 50 million to another, would only sell to chelsea for 80 or 100.

Well, you have to be careful here. Barca had no choice with Figo. Juventus regularly sells their stars. But we're after about 3 players at striker, all of whom play for top European clubs who traditionally don't sell their players. And those strikers are happy in their current situation. So not selling isn't at all surprising.
As far as the money - we've overpaid in the past and have shown a willingness to do so. Other clubs would be stupid not to overcharge us. Although our recent "agreement" with Real Madrid regarding not entering into bidding wars may be a step in the right direction.

Well, we have very few needs now. We had the best season in English history (when you account for # of games and differing point systems). To upgrade from such lofty levels, we need to buy established, superstar players, and those types are rarely for sale. Real may have succeeded at buying those types of players, but they were never trying to address a specific position (and they always bought them right before the players went into decline, hardly smart strategy). They just tried to go after the biggest name they could. Look at Beckham's signing when they already Figa at right wing.

The stars real bought were ofensive midfielders (3) or atackers (2).

Real Madrid signed a bunch of old fogies. Beckham, Zidane, Figo, Ronaldo--a ll of their huge signings had their best years elsewhere.

    LOLLLL???

Figo in his prime with 27? The same Figo of the Euro 2000, that was Golden Ball in 99 or 00 and Fifa World player of the year in 00 or 01?

Zidane in his prime with 27/28? The best player of the decade?

Ronaldo with 25 or 26? World player of the year 3 times?

This team won the champions League 3 times in 5 years, i'd say it needs to be a Galactic team to acomplish that, and your coment just showed your diminute football knowledge.

Ronaldo world player 3 times? How many of those occured at REAL! One, technically, although that was for his accomplishments at the WC not for Real. It's not that Figo, Zidane tec. were bad players, their best years were elsewhere. TROPHYLESS. Do you understand that word? It's described Real two years running. Even if they one the CL 3 times, they've gotten worse the more galactigos they sign. They were once great, but that was when they had less "worldclass" players.

your problem is what made you. your access so seemingly unlimited funds. as soon as you want a play they'll drive the price up since they know you can afford it.

that was the mistake made with the first season esp with flop-o-drogba. I doubt we'd be suckered in coming seasons.

    TROPHYLESS!! LOL!!
Huh... Raul and Roberto Carlos won 3 champions League's at Madrid, and Figo and Zidane won 2 champions League's. Ronaldo won 1 i think.

Everyone gets old, but this team that won the CL 3 times is one of the best sides EVER to be gathered in a team, maybe even better than the 90's AC Milan and other equally great sides.

How many of these former world players of the year won the award during their time at Real Madrid?...........

If I remember correctly, Figo won his world player of the year award at Barcelona in the year leading up to his transfer to Real Madrid and has failed to delivery to that standard every since.

Zidane won his world player of the year award at Juventus and also never managed to take those performances with him to Real Madrid.

Ronaldo has never made it back to the level he showed while at Barcelona. Ever since his injury he's been a shell of his former self. Don't get me wrong, still a very talented player, but it was his ball control at pace which set him apart. Now it's just his ball control..........

I'm not against signing big name players at all. I think if we really want to mix it with the best and win Europes top prizes then we need one of Europe's top squad. However, it is important to sign players who are on the up rather than those on the decline.

    HAHAHAHA!!

    Real signings:
    2000 - Figo
    2001 - Zidane
    2002 - Ronaldo
    2003 - Bechkham

Fifa World player of the year: (of real madrid)
    2001 1º Figo - 3º Raul
    2002 3º Zidane - 6º Raul
    2003 1º Zidane - 3º Ronaldo - 5º Roberto Carlos - 8º Raul
    2004 5º Zidane - 7º Ronaldo

I'm only counting the awards that were acomplished in a full season at real madrid because for instance Ronaldo was 1st in 2002 but was 9 months in inter and 3 months in real. And Figo for instance also won the Golden Ball in the year that he moved to real.

So.. look at the table.. And re-make your silly post:

World player of the year is bogus anyway. Most of the people who vote for it are ignoramuses from soccer backwaters. European player of the year is a much more accurate award.

Coaches and captains of what countries exactly? Are they all from Europe/S.America? No, the vast majority are from absolutely ******** countries. Really, you make incredibly silly arguments.
