The NCAA is about to open bidding for championship sites for the next four years. The public-information site is open, but the actual "bid portal" will open mid-June. The site gives quite a bit of info for each sport. I culled the soccer info from a very-long-time-to-download PDF. The "Festival" is something that Division II does. Each year, one season (fall, winter, spring) runs all of their championships at one city (including things like an Olympic-style opening ceremony). I think it should be somewhere that is decently warm because thats right around Christmas time? Maybe a place like FC Dallas stadium? Baylor has really nice facilities?
Yeah... the FC Dallas/Dallas Final Four has really been a hit. Some of the worst Final Fours ever. No one cares down there. The NCAA should never go back to Dallas.
It probably makes more sense to be located somewhat close to most programs. SMU and Houston Baptist are the only programs in Texas. I think something between North Carolina and Pennsylvania or California (perhaps every 3 years) makes the most sense.
For the five or ten of you who really want to know the gizzards of hosting these kind of things, the web site has a lot more information now. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FAQ http://ncaabids.azurewebsites.net/faq/ Championships http://ncaabids.azurewebsites.net/championships/ ** The following documents are from the "championships" page: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- General Bid Specifications 2014-2018 http://ncaabids.azurewebsites.net/w...3/06/General-Bid-Specifications-2014-2018.pdf NCAA Hosting Agreement http://ncaabids.azurewebsites.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/NCAA-Hosting-Agreement1.pdf Budget Template http://ncaabids.azurewebsites.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Budget-Template.pdf NCAA Hotel Contract Sample http://ncaabids.azurewebsites.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/NCAA-Hotel-Contract-Sample.pdf Host Specifications Agreement for Venues http://ncaabids.azurewebsites.net/w.../Host-Specifications-Agreement-for-Venues.pdf Host Specifications Agreement for LOC and Members http://ncaabids.azurewebsites.net/w...cifications-Agreement-for-LOC-and-Members.pdf Preliminary Round Venue Lease Agreement DI Womens Basketball Only http://ncaabids.azurewebsites.net/w...ease-Agreement-DI-Womens-Basketball-Only-.pdf -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- M D-I Soccer http://ncaabids.azurewebsites.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/DI-MSO-Championship-Bid-Specs.pdf W D-I Soccer http://ncaabids.azurewebsites.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/DI-WSO-Championship-Bid-Specs1.pdf D-II Soccer http://ncaabids.azurewebsites.net/w...3/06/DII-MW-Soccer-Championship-Bid-Specs.pdf D-II Festival Fall 2004 http://ncaabids.azurewebsites.net/w...Championships-Fall-Festival-RFP-version-3.pdf D-III Soccer http://ncaabids.azurewebsites.net/w.../06/DIII-MW-Soccer-Championship-Bid-Specs.pdf -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From the D-I Men's document: 4. It is possible that a site will get multiple years, so it is not set in stone that the four sites will get one event. (Philly is that much warmer?) San Antonio put in an ambitious bid to host all of the championships - would have pretty cool to see that right down the road! Oh well - no go this time around
