Did some 'research' and noticed there was some selections of players from Eastern Bloc European nations (Yugos, Romanians, etc.) What was the cause of this selection of those type of players?

Mexico's exposure increased exponentially with the Summer Olympics and 1970 World Cup. Mexico were building new stadiums and word got around that Mexico paid good salaries. Many clubs from Hungary, Yugoslavia, and Czechoslovakia played in Mexico throughout the 60s and 70s. In Horacio Casarin's autobiography, he stated that Ferenc Puskas had requested to stay in Mexico.

Bora's tenure with UNAM and the national team also had a lot to do with it. Bora was like an ambassador of sorts.

Arpad Fekete's coaching stint in Mexico lasted 5 decades. He has coached more teams than any other coach in Mexico. He won titles with Chivas, Oro.

Thank you for the lesson. I had a feeling it had to do with that "word of mouth" factor you know, good wages, good food, exciting league (hinchas, barras, etc.), historic building and architecture, and of course bellezas galore :D

In this day and age, I'm sure there are some playing in Europe probably wondering about playing in Mexico, but never make that plunge. Of course the clubs call the shots probably. It's like, what could an Italian, French, Egyptian, or South Korean do for our club?

Brazilians aren't hispanic & Spaniards are hispanic... Monterrey had a Sierra leonan player... Abdul Thompson althought his career there was similar to N'kong's one in Atlante...

Naturalizado and he had already played for Argentina and Uruguay in non cap tied games. He's always said he's argentinean.

The same way Edgar Castillo played for Mexico and the US. He played with the two before but wasn't cap tied to neither.

Gignac. Even though its his first season, he will probably go down as the best non hispanic to have played in the league.

In regards to attracting non-latins. unless our clubs are offering Europeans Gignac money, I doubt any of them would choose to go except for Spainards and maybe Portugese. Reason being is the cultural adjustment. Also given the high level of play in our league, combined with the already well establish fanbase and revenue, clubs are not willing to dishout money for over the peak big names ala MLS/Arab-Gulf leagues. One of the most exciting parts about Gignac's signing is that Tigres got a talented player in his prime, and part of me feels that a large incentive of him incentive was the fact that Tigres were going to make libertadores final, not to mention the fat check of course. I highly doubt he would've joined MLS, nor do I believe MLS would pay that much for him.
