Mexico has had a lot of good hispanics from various countries in latin america. I was wondering about the history with non hispanics. Can you all think of any europeans, africans, or asians who had solid careers in Mexico?
I wouldnt really call his career solid. He was ok the year Atlante won the championship, but when he tried coming back he didnt do as good. I think hes with Indios right now and not making an impact.
Those were the first two that came to mind when I read the thread title. Butragueño had 2-3 solid years with Celaya. Can't really think of any other right now.
No. It's much easier for a latin american player to adapt to the country and league I'm sure its much cheaper as well Schuster had a brief stint with pumas Guardiola with Sinaloa
Kenji Fukuda only played with Pachuca in Libertadores. He always played in Pachuca Juniors during the season. I remember their used to be this dolt in Bigsoccer that I used to fight with, who always claimed Mexicans were racist because they had no europeans. He was a nutjob. Also among the Europeans who weren't outstanding but did well in Mexico, I mention Zdenko Muff. Plus he was the last non spaniard european to do something in Mexico.
thanks for clearing that up and i remember Zdenko. he was a standout player in Tecos back in the late 90s
I remember watching -Eric Wynalda with Leon back in 97-98 or something... -Zdenko Muff.... - Ilie Dumitrescu played for America and Atlante in the 90's and was part of that Romania 1994 team...similar story for Belodedici - Goran Milojevic in the 80's...Yugoslavia seleccionado also ditto Davor Jozic - Wiki says Eusebio "la pantera negra" played for Rayados in '75, wtf? - Learning a lot of stuff here, there is a Clasico del Sur? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Cl%C3%A1sico_Del_Sur
Isidro langara is perhaps the best European player to play in Mexico when you consider his productivity. He accumulated 105 goals in just 3 seasons. He won the goal scoring title on 2 seasons and was runner up. He also holds a record that stands to this day, when he scored 7 goals in one match.
many players of the yesteryears use to be employed by companies. They played footie on the side. Their appearance reflected that of the company.
The term 'hispanic' has been given too many definitions throughout that last century that even Spaniards themselves do not consider themselves "Hispano". There lies too many autonomous regions within Spain, that many consider themselves other ethnic groups before they associate themselves by being spaniard. Its quite common in Europe. The Germans from the Bavarian region. In some parts, they identify themselves as Franconians, then Bavarians, and lastly, Germans. But without going into an ethnic debate, the author did state in his original post to name some of the best European players and the reason I mentioned Langara is because is a European.
Yeah, left some ties in Mexico, hence came back as part of Televisa Deportes' world cup team for 2006
