There was a band around here about a decade ago called Sorry About Your Daughter. That's gotta be the best band name ever. And having a top 20 US hit with a name like The Blow Monkeys is fantastic.

I tend to like the random. Spin published a list of bizarre band names 5 or 6 years ago, and there were some pretty funny ones in there - REO Speedealer, the Shamu Afterbirth Orchestra, Herpes Cineplex.

The other good names are ones that perfectly describe the music. There couldn't be a better band name for a pioneering country-punk band than Killbilly.

Wow. Talk about digging up old threads.

I posted in this thread over three years ago and still stand by the ones I had posted earlier. However, The Dead Kenny G's should now be put at the top of the list.

My friend had two bands with great names. One was Amish Mafia, and the other was Part No. 41 (it was a reference to those old Advance Auto Parts commercials, and Part #41 was the ass).

It doesn't stand for anything. I live in Richmond and am good friends with two of the original members and they both deny this to be true.

Interesting, because pretty much everyone thinks that's what it means. Did they say if it meant anything?

It means absolutely nothing. The explanation I have been given was that they were frustrated by not being able to come up with a name when one of them screamed the word GWAAAAAARRRR!

Pretty boring, but the acronym explanation was made up by fans.

Sort of like the Phil Lesh explanation for Phish's name.

Gotcha. So their story is similar to REM's.
