I guarantee they will be more nuanced and reasonable than calling anyone who isn't an MLS stan a euro snob (along many others). I also think there is a lot more nuance to my posts than people like you actually read.
It’s a very fair take. I personally think Gregg is ok. He’s done some things well, to be sure. But it is fair to ask if perhaps some else could get more out of our talent. I suspect someone might raise the ceiling of our international and domestic based talent.
yeah...especially coming off a 2-1 loss to Trinidad....and the ever-darkening shadow of the lack of any marquee wins on berhalter's USMNT resume continuing to loom over his tenure.... ....its getting harder and harder to argue that this berhalter version of the usmnt is reflective of its highest potential..... berhalter is great at beating up on minnows, though, I think we can all agree on that.
We did ok at the World Cup. We outplayed England for periods of the game, which was fun to watch. But we have not had one single game where we have had a major win against a major opponent outside of our confederation. We have had sustained success against Mexico, which has been, at least to me, a little bit of a surprise. But this team does not have a major scalp, such as the win against Spain in 2009, or Portugal going back over 20 years. The Iran win was enjoyable, but still not the major upset we want to see to show progress.
Just create a thread called "2026 Cycle Coaching" or something similar. Less of an incendiary title than previous iterations. And if there happens to be a coaching change, discussions can move along accordingly.
The Guardian has released the top 100 players in the world numbers 11-100. I'm guessing all the Americans must be in the top 10.
Just hired a Swiss NT assistant for the USMNT, looks like a very qualified hire. Also probably helps a bit in the pursuit of Bryan Okoh.

Not their fault, but definitely did nothing to help. If only Aaron Long hadn't gotten hurt. I'm looking forward to introducing you guys to the ones MLS academies are churning out world class players.

https://apnews.com/article/us-socce... Vincent Cavin, men's national team since 2014. not really sure what the strengths of this new asst coach are....but i like the profile IF he is a guy who can fill-in for gregggs weaknesses (inability to be spontaneous and adapt within games, overall rigidity, areas of weakness in assessing player pool) if he can be a guy that helps greggg overcome his weaknesses....then this could be a great hire If greggg can find assistants who can compensate for his weaknesses....then I would have no issue with him staying as coach.... hopefully that is what the thinking is with this hire....seems promising
Let me say for the record that he appears to be a very average coach. Once again, I didn't agree with his reappointment. But he's also not the Antichrist.
@adam tash I have a few questions: I'm a little curious...forgive me if you said earlier and I missed it, but what do YOU think Berhalter's positives are? Do you think he has any? Honest question because you mention the new guy hopefully compensating for Gregg's weaknesses. That implies, to me, that you believe he does have some redeeming qualities.
He did call in Johnny when he was just some guy in Brazil and now just some guy in spain??? Johnny Cardoso against Columbia #USMNT pic.twitter.com/91C20XiVtl— rams are going up ole ole🇧🇦 (@dcfcnetti) June 9, 2024
Well, at least he shat the bed in a friendly. He didn't risk Pulisic, who has had a long season, for the full 90 going for the win. He didn't call up Roldan, Lletget, Arriola or Lovitz but there's still time.
I used to think it was a positive for Gregg that he did not screw up two matches in a row very often. But I am now rethinking that and the only positive attribute for Gregg is that he is not Klinsmann. He is every bit as bad for USA soccer as Klinsmann but he does appear a bit better. I no longer think that as he has the USA playing way below the sum of their parts I just hope we don't embarrass too badly at the Copa.
Agree that Berhalter may not be much better as a coach than Klinsmann. I think he cares about US soccer a lot more. JK only cares about himself. I'm not a big Berhalter fan but I do accept he's not going to be fired anytime soon and that apparently makes me a shill.
he clearly has the us playing below the sum of their parts. so clearly. for example, the individual errors they NEVER make for their clubs...are a FEATURE of his system players are thinking instead of simply playing.....and it doesnt work. never will. flabbergasted the players support him, honestly. I truly dont understand it.
these guys have been getting ABSOLUTELY DRUBBED by any decent team theyve played lately Japan, Netherlands, Germany, Colombia..... i mean just eviscerated.....they lost those matches by a combined score of 13-3!!!! how can they be okay with this???? how much more can they take???? whatever BS he's sold them on is going to start to crumble.....if it hasnt already..... he tried to get them to state in the press how the copa america is prep for the 2026 WC..... its literally insane to me
