actually it will start after the Auto Show ends on April 4. I guess your sources forgot to mention that.
I think this falls under "No shit, Sherlock". Could be a bit awkward if they started removing the roof during the Paralympics or the Auto Show. Don't need a source for that one.
can i just say i have been drooling over all of the video and pictoral stadium porn over at bc place 2011 website. but i have a question that maybe some folks closer to the Whitecaps can explain to me. I understand that the soccer configuration will be 22K and the BC Lions config will be like 56K. Is that correct? Is anybody sure how they are going to acheive these two configurations? Because from the looks of the two renderings below it looks like the roof somehow raises and lowers to reveal or cover up the upper bowl seats? Is that correct? interiour (soccer configuration) interiour (canuck pointy ball configuration) From the video presentations it doesn't look like the roof is shown to be able to do that (it just shows the center section being retracted into the "basket") but the renderings make it look like that so I am confused. And what do Vancouver fans think about a new soccer only stadium on the waterfront. The drawings I have seen show it having an awesome view out over water sort of like Philly's new PPL Park but it doesn't look as neat or cool or sexy from the outside as the new BC Place. Is there a prefernce amongst fans for one stadium over the other (or location)? Is the eventual idea to have the Whitecaps in the smaller waterfront stadium but use the BC Place for big rivalry games with SSFC and Portland? Anyway thanks for any help you guys can provide.
That's not correct, Ole. The upper roof does not lower to cover the inner portion. There is second inner roof located between the lower and upper deck that can be opened or closed depending on the configuration.
ok. how does that work? if you know? i am not seeing any secondary roof in the technical drawings? is it stored around the edge of the lip between the lower and upper bowl and somehow extended out and up to the central opening? sorry if i seem dumb about this but i am just curious as to how it will work because it has the possibility of being totally rad or a totally rad idea that didn't quite come off right. here is hoping it is the former and not the later. plus those interiour renovations that were done for they Olympics make it look like the game day experience will be a very nice and rather plush. beats the pants off that bucket of open girders without any concourses or suites or anything resembling professional atmosphere they are desperately hoping to cobble together on a shoe string down in SJ.

you really have an axe to grind against the Earthquakes stadium? also, to IronShiek: to say something will happen after an event, is amazingly general, and not really a scoop, if you don't mean directly after the event. So, forgive the posters for pointing out that it will be taken down following another large event. but on the topic of roof construction, I can't wait to see how the final product will look and operate in reality. It's always nice to see how a dream comes to fruition.
Some within the contractors of this project are saying this is the most difficult project they have ever undertaken. An engineering marvel to say the least.
It looks amazing inside, but it looks godawful from the outside. Those towers are not at all elegant.
All of the 'masts' around the outside of the stadium kind of remind me of sailing ships. Perhaps the designers decided to subtly pay homage to George Vancouver and all the other European explorers who discovered this great region.
Basically, Lew Wolff is doing the stadium on the cheap with no luxury boxes and very few amenities. Capacity will be 18k max, although the final number is not out yet as far as I know. The numbers that have been thrown around have been between 15 and 18k. Its shaping up to be the weakest stadium in the league.
Chaps don't forget, one week today on 3 May is supposed to be when the dome will be deflated!! I've waited years for this, well not including the accidental deflation
Scrap that, the deflation is postponed until tomorrow morning at 10 due to weather. http://www.news1130.com/news/local/article/50467--bc-place-deflation-postponed
we could 'hang him from the highest mast' of one of the rockets holding up the retractable roof-- or at least use his undies as a flag of english superiority
not sure how to link this but here iis the webcam for BCplace http://www.earthcam.com/clients/bcplace/index.php?cam=2
Well I kind of thought something was up with the seating for BC Place. we never heard if there will be new seats for the stadium. Unfortunately after all the money being spent there won't be except 5000 new ones. Also the ugly brown glass around the stadium might stay. This is a letter from Pavco to a member of the SSP forum. Up to 5000 seats in the lower seating level (known as Level 2) will be replaced. The replacement seats will be a combination of new retractable seats, and new, premium club seating. These club seats will be high-quality and padded for your comfort. The overall seating capacity will remain the same. The exterior glass is currently under review, and a decision on this part of the stadium will be made in the coming months. http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showpost.php?p=4901238&postcount=1836
Don't know if you guys had seen a picture of your finished temp home. But I have to admit it's a very nice little venue for a temp stadium
