Just as a by-the-by (in case you were wondering why anyone would make up having seen a press conference by Blair in order to be exalt in his ring-dancing abilities in a futile bunfight about the unparalleled excellence of the BBC), he's got this mancrush thing about Blair, our Karl. Seems he has quite a thing about men who lie right into his face and then expect him to say thank you. "Independent centrists" are kinky like that.

There is no sense at all that even in times of crisis it's seen as a patriotic duty for news programmes to support the goverment. There'd be no suggestion that advertisers would pull adverts if news shows didn't toe the line.

Indeed. Not, of course, that this is applicable to the Beeb in any case. Another reason why the BBC is the finest media organisation on the planet is that it is not beholden to corporate sponsors. Only the people of Great Britain whose taxes pay to ensure it's continued unparalleled excellence.
