Well, on the surface its about a hunter who stumbles on a bag full of cash out in the Ol' West and is then chased by a ruthless mercenary but the movie is about a lot more than that. It's about life, it's about death, it has themes of existentialism and its technically crafted to perfection.
Are you a Poker player? I had no idea. Do you bet money on games? Football sucked for me yesterday, I bruised my sesamoid bone and am going to be out for a while. I'm a civilian version of Deisler.
At first it was mere a hobby to me, but last year I started with 50 bucks playing for money at fixed limit hold'em and now I'm around 550 (thanks to variance normally I should be already at 600) bucks now ready to advance slowly into higher limits.
@#$@#%@%@##$@#$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ouch is right, DI! WTF, did I get gilted?! Or is this a Europe release only thing? Perhaps it is a double-density disk?? Maybe that is what I get for picking it up at Target... LOL!!! Hey, I was doing my 36-hours-of-Xmas-shopping-xtravaganza. I will seek this disc out, trust me!
I figured you approved once I saw Javier on your avatar. Man is a brilliant actor. Movie was just captivating. Can't say to much as I don't want this to play "spoiler", but people that haven't seen it should understand two things prior to going in: (a) it is a Coen Brothers film (need I say more), and (b) it is a character study. So, I thought about that film for like two weeks straight. Can't wait to see it again because there is so much to look for or digest. I drove my wife nuts each day coming home with some 'new' theory. On IMDB.com (Internet Movie DataBase), there was this thread going on about how the Bardem and TLJ characters were actually literal alter-egos. Poor bastard got lambasted there about it, but I tell you, he had me thinking hard about it. There are a few holes, but man, it does have some credence in areas in that film. Best Supporting actor is Javier Bardem's to lose this year, Oscar.
Gotcha. Will do. Obviously the box set wasn't available where I was shopping. Thanks for the tip... I would have discovered it sooner or later, but likely later, so thanks for the sooner!
wow...NSR board at Bayern thread...super.. so we can have some fun....without talking about soccer... so here can I write also my Klinsi-in-love post just kidding... hm...what about to talk about your favorite bavarian beer?
Oh...no...you...didn't! I would love to start this discussion. After tasting the nectar in the Fatherland, I was hell-bent to find the best Doppel Bock and Dunkel Weiss beer. Along the way, I have sampled many a regular Weiss and Lager and Dunkel as well. Here are my tops choices thus far (in no particular order as they are all a variety of tastes): - Celebrator Doppelbock (Ayinger product???) - Aventinus Weizenstarkbier (Schneider Weisse product) - Ayinger UR-Weisse (Dunkel Weisse) - Schneider Weisse Dunkel Weisse - Ayinger Altbarisch Dunkel - Weihenstehaner Dunkel or Weisse (can't remember which I enjoyed!) I have not included Lagers and Hefe Weissen's as they are much more common, and too many to choose from! Clearly my two favorite breweries or micro-brews in Germany are Schneider Weisse and Ayinger by the looks of things, but I am open to any other suggestions... especially the German folk on these boards.
Hmm...my favorite Biers from Bayern: Andechs Hefeweizen (the best bier on earth IMHO) You have to go to the monastery and drink this straight from the wooden barrel. Unbelievable. Weihenstephaner hefeweizen Weihenstephaner Celebrator Tucher hefeweizen Hacker-Pschorr weisse As you can see I love Hefeweizen. It is by far my favorite style.
hm..looks like you are already half-Bavarian I tried already many of Bavarian beers...recently I tried Dunkel Paulaner Bier...was also very good...... if you Dunkel Bier, try also Dunkel Paulaner.... I love Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier...hm. nobody can make better beer than Bavarians
You might enjoy and discover (even more) great things in this insightful analysis of the film: http://blogs.suntimes.com/scanners/2007/11/no_country_for_old_men_out_in.html
American beer is terrible, yes. and Most Belgian/dutch beers are pretty poor too,but Bavarian beer is incredibly good. My current favourite is Paulaner hefe-weizen naturtrub closely followed by franziskaner. Guiness is the only non German beer i really enjoy. As for music i'm currently really into Gogol Bordello and have been for the past 2 years or so, their crazy Russian Gypsy punk music is insanely good and they are the best live band i've ever seen. Also loving the Cribs, sons and daughters, camera obscura and two gallants just now.
You got tickets for the Aberdeen - Bayern game? I just dont like beer in general. Not fond of beer in any way, which 99% of the world seems to be though.
I was gonna buy them from ebay, but they were like 45 pounds each (90 dollars), and im livin on a students wage, plus i would have to travel 150 or so miles up to aberdeen. If i thought it was gonna be a particularly exciting game i would've made the effort, but would rather save my money for the Uefa cup final in Manchester.
