No Liverpool players were really good the first half, heh.....so everyone played bad within the first 45 minutes of that final.

I must say that i don't like him too. But for me at that game he wasn't the man of the match. He isn't always the man of the match when Liverpool wins.

news seems to be trickling in from independent websites and smaller sources that fergie is stepping up his interest in ballack...

i am slowly getting resigned to losing him :(

i imagine well see something materialize within the next 2 weeks for sure - either in the form of a transfer or contract extension...

He is probably more worried about Ferdinand signing. He would be in deep doodoo to lose his defensive anchor

I see no reason to lose hope. I don't think Ferguson is smart enough to truly want Ballack.

I agree here. And the longer it goes on, the more I think he'll remain with Bayern.

    LOL

since when did this become the Man U transfer thread? Just joking. What ever happened to Ballack going to Spain? All I read or hear about is Man U now? It seems like he will sign with Bayern soon. :)

    Pretty much rumors right now..
"contract negotiations" through the media. Something should happen very shortly though

Yeah, but he's no one man savior either. They can get someone else for all that money he's asking.

This is karma. This is just what that arrogant bastard Ferguson gets for putting his vanity ahead of the good of the club back when he sold Stam.

They've never adequately replaced Stam and probably never freakin' will!

    Severely.....

I agree...getting rid of Stam was "Beyond the Valley" of stupid. They could probably get two quality backs for him.

Hey just wondering, any news on who filled the last spot on Bayern, was it Mauersberger? Is there any information on the young prospect Mauersberger sort of like the Ottl info that was posted already :D . Also whats up with Balla talks? He should be signing or moving on any day now...

Um, not to get into an argument over this but have you looked at our defensive record with and without Rio in the lineup? It's like night and day, and he's helped us become overall one of the best defenses in Europe (better even than with Stam). Most fans feel he is indeed being an assclown over his contract negotiations, especially after we stood by his other ridiculous move, but selling Rio would be a last-ditch decision.

As for Stam, what would you expect if you openly defied and criticized your employers the way he did in his book?

Getting back to Ballack, he's an excellent player and I think he'd provide the two-way midfield player we haven't had since Keane began playing further back. But barring a falling out with him and Bayern, I think it'd be awfully tough to land him.

how do you conclude that it was rio and not heinze who is solely responsible for this...?

i saw manu play liverpool at anfield without rio, and with 10 men for the last 30 mins or so...

they didnt skip a beat - i cant remember pool having a sniff of goal... who was the man marshalling the defense that day?

you wont miss rio as much as you think you will, especially you get a decent replacement... but you will sorely miss heinze...
verdict: HE is the difference maker!

Because I'm also considering the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons.

Liverpool were without their main playmaker, Xabi Alonso, while Pellegrino clearly wasn't fully fit, and Keane had one of his best games of the season, owning the middle of the pitch. Additionally, after Brown was sent off, we brought on Fortune and O'Shea, virtually playing with five defenders for the final part of the match.

You may be right, and if he continues to play cat-and-mouse with his contract, we might have to find out the hard way. But no player should think he is bigger than the club.
