Didn't think it warranted a bump in the BF3 thread, and I know there are enough folks around these parts who are into the Battlefield franchise, so why not start a BF4-centric thread, huh? ;)

Open beta release dates were announced:
    http://blogs.battlefield.com/2013/09/battlefield-4-beta-dates/
October 4th for the general public, October 1st for players who have met certain criteria. That's a good 4 weeks +/- to play the "Siege of Shanghai" map in conquest or domination modes

And a new multiplayer trailer to boot:

    Well worth it, IMO.

Played only one match late last night, and a bit of a howler compared to my feeble skills. Buttons have been remapped, which I'm hoping can be changed in the settings somewhere. LB was knife in BF3, but defaults to grenade in BF4 ... found out the hard way when I snuck up behind a guy to take his dog tags. Whoops.

There's an animation associated with targeting opposing players now, so it's less on-the-fly than it used to be. Your player character actually stops, points, and says something.

One word of advice, if you're on the roof of the tower and you hear the fire alarms going off ... JUMP!!!!

Maybe get a little 3-headed monster action going on at some point?

That could be kind of tricky. Last night a friend and I tried to play together but couldn't find a way to set up a squad before joining a server. We ended up hoping from game to game until we found one where there was enough space so an invite could be sent. Other than that, I had tons of fun playing.

I jumped in having not played BF3 for a year. The button change and my shot reactions aside it has been great fun to be back. I'll definitely be having this on pre-order along with premium. I think this will be the last 360 game I buy (as some of my friends will not be upgrading to a One anytime soon).

Didn't get to play the beta as much as I'd hoped this weekend, but I did finally manage to fit in 4-5 rounds of Conquest Domination last night. For those who don't know, it's centered around the 2-story arcade/atrium building, with one flag centered within the atrium itself, one outside in some wreckage, and the third across the street near the "storefronts". BF is known more for its vehicular combat, but man do I love their take on the close quarters, infantry-only gametypes.

Watching some streams on twitch.tv to get my fix - shhh, don't tell the boss - and "chaotic awesomeness" is an understatement.

Just pre-ordered both the game (for the PC) and the official strategy guide.

I also just upgraded my video card. I was planning to for a while anyway, but checking this site to see if my system could handle BF4 was what finally prompted me to upgrade now: though the rest of my rig comfortably passed both the Minimum and Recommended tabs, my previous video card barely passed the Minimum tab but failed to pass the Recommended tab. My new video card passes both tabs and has also made a huge graphical improvement for my other PC games as well. ;)

I briefly considered getting this game for the upcoming PS4 instead, but I could never play first-person shooters well on a controller - I need a keyboard & mouse for those.

So I now better finish BF3's single-player campaign, as BF4's single-player campaign begins about six years later.

It turns out that BF4 won't have Co-op Mode. :(

Was there seperate servers for those who preordered? Cause I never saw the option to play the Obliteration mode all weekend. Either way I got my fill of the beta, I was getting tired of Shanghi and the jank that comes with beta's was becoming a pain.

I never did see Obliteration mode at all. either.

It was definitely a beta, and a bit buggy, but it sounds like DICE is taking some of the community's feedback to heart, most of which seems to be geared more towards the PC version.

Oh, look at that, I scheduled a "doctor's appointment" for the afternoon of Tuesday, October 29th. I'll have to leave work early. What a coincidence.

Between Internet issues and being in Beirut this week I feel I have barely touched the beta. No new mode for me last time I checked. At least they are bringing the legacy controller layout back.

Punching a dog. Some folks are saying this is a knock against CoD:Ghosts and its canine(s).

Got a text message yesterday afternoon saying that my copy will be ready at 12:01A on Tuesday, and that I can finalize the payment tonight at 10P. It'll have to wait until lunchtime tomorrow, however, right before I go to the "doctor".

I have another month, well just under, until I'll be playing this. I have my copy for the Xbox One paid off already.
