There's another thread confusingly titled "Re:Barbados Roster" but it's actually about the US team callups for Barbados in the home-and-away series that starts this Sunday June 15. If anyone knows anything about Barbados national team player pool, post your knowledge here. From the US fans' standpoint Barbados should be a minnow. But the minnow we faced 4 years ago, Grenada, included some shark-like minnows like Shalrie Joseph and Jason Roberts. Here's the boxscores from FIFA for Grenada's home-and-away elimination qualifying series with Dominica in February & March. Also listed on the Wikipedia page of Barbadian footballers are the following players who may be retired or not called up so far: Paul Ifill (Crystal Palace), Tom Soares (Crystal Palace) and his brother Louie Soares (Aldershot Town). Wikipedia (brief) list of Barbadian footballers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Barbadian_footballers How many English soccer fans or Bajans can fill in some details about these players or the players expected to play in this series?
Rouse, the likely starting keeper, has played in Ireland the past few years but was just released. Forde is the team's captain, plays in Barbados. Ifill is their best player by far, he's expected to play in the qualifiers.

In FIFA 08 Dag and Red are the worst rated team so I usually pick them to start a managerial career. Nurse is rated as a 46. Most of the U.S. Team is rated in the 70s, with a few in the high 60s, and Donovan topping the rankings with an 80. Here's how FIFA 08 rates possible Barbados callups: Committed to Barbados: Jonathan Forte - 64 - Striker Emmerson Boyce - 68 - Center Back Paul Ifill - 65 - Right Midfield Mark McCammon - 54 - Striker Jon Nurse - 46 - Striker Eligible but not committed: Tom Soares - 66 - Center Midfield Marlon Harewood - 73 - Striker And our likely starters: Howard - 79 Cherundolo - 75 Onyewu - 75 Bocanegra - 76 Pearce - 65 Edu - 64 Bradley - 68 Beasley - 77 Dempsey - 69 Donovan - 80 Johnson - 77
Harewood is from England, his parents are from Barbados. He turned them down in January, but not sure whether he's changed his mind. Tom Soares is quite young and has played in the U-21 setup for England, so I'm guessing he's going to wait for a bit. His brother Louie has played for Barbados already.
No, except in FIFA. I think they're pretty accurate in FIFA as opposed to other sports. I remember Sam Madison being a 94 in speed in Madden back when I use to play and although I liked Sam, he was nowhere near that quick. FIFA is much better with their accuracy of player's talents and I think it comes from competing with Winning Eleven for the past few years as WE is always accurate with ratings. I mean one of Eddie Lewis' top attribute is crossing. That is just one example. FIFA got much better this year and out did WE for the first time in a long time.
Looks like they are still looking for players. http://www.barbadossoccer.com/ Give Barbados a Chance. We got a Jersey with your name on it, mon. We kid, we don't have dem budgets for de fancy lettering and all. (Ok, I have no idea what accents they use)
Wait, does this mean that if Barbados doesn't have enough players, the US would win the 2-legged series by forfeit? Maybe this explains why we have yet to see a Barbados Roster for this match...
You know, we can put this in perspective. According to wiki, Barbados has a TOTAL POPULATION of 279,000 people. To put that in comparison, that's less than half the size of North Dakota. Imagine North Dakota trying to put together two even soccer teams of their best citizens... do you think they'd be able to beat Barbados? It's really amazing to think of a whole country being made up of so few people...
Eh... all of these international organizations are that way. It's why the UN is so messed up - Syria, Lebanon, Libya and Cuba get more votes than the US, England and France...
Iceland has about as many people as Barbados... and can put together an entire roster of players at foreign top-flight clubs, which can give even the Germans a run for their money...
Fifa ranks Iceland 85th and Barbados 117th. So Iceland is getting more out of their population (which is only 12% larger than Barbados), but it's not really as big of a difference as you make it out to be.
I would like to see votes based on the your FIFA ranking, more specifically, the FIFA points. Come up with a formula to level it off a bit so the lower ranked get some votes. Something like votes = Sqrt(points) + 5. For example, Code: Ranking Country Points Votes 1 Argentina 1559 44 14 Mexico 1020 37 21 USA 874 35 120 El Salvador 242 21 121 Barbados 239 20 186 Nicaragua 47 12 199 Montserrat 0 5 Fifa can determine the equation based on how whiny the smaller countries get.
Can't happen because all of the small countries would vote it down. Once organizations get started, it's pretty hard to change things mid-stream. Going back to my UN example... if we were re-starting it today, don't you think we'd want China & Russia off the security council? And don't you think we'd want the western democracies to have more votes than the third world america/jew-hating dictatorships? Of course... but it's too late to change the rules now. Those with the power will never give it up voluntarily.
To put it even in more perspective I live in a city that has a population of 220K...thats only 60K less than the whole island nation...and our youth teams have been pumping out some ODP and YNT prospects lately.
Is there any rule that they must release their roster by a certain date? Surprised we haven't seen it yet.
