http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=reu-swissfinger&prov=reuters&type=lgns At least there was a victory for Servette at the end of it. I wonder how long he will be out of action.
Here are the match highlights that include that tragic moment: http://real.xobix.ch/ramgen/sfdrs/sp/2004/sp_12052004-450k.rm?start=0:24:18.178&end=0:27:47.429 (Real Player)
Sucks to be him and all, but it's just a finger. He should be happy he doesn't play guitar for a living!
Yeah, I'm not questioning your use of the word tragic. This is a pretty unusual and gruesome thing to happen to a soccer player, so I guess it applies! In other news, I had no idea Karambeu played for Servette.
Yep, they also have ex-Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz as an investor. They are actually starting to look like a decent side these days (despite the horrible season start.)
Their start really hurt them. If they continue to play as they have been, they still might make a run at the UEFA Cup spot.
Yes, his last year with Young Boys. As for other (formerly) big names - there are two well known Romanians. Iulian Filipescu (Ex-Real Betis) and Adrian Ilie (ex-Valencia, played in two CL finals I believe)...both play for FC Zurich.
lol, Brings a whole new expression when the manager said, "pull your finger out!" What?! [groans] okay.......its a been a long day you know! Apparently, it took him a while to figure out that part of his finger was missing. How the hell don't you notice? His wedding ring snagged on the fence when he slid off....... ouch...... They found it, but couldn't reattach it. Shame, well - it could have been worse - he could have snagged his di..........erm......okay maybe this is a bit to horrific to talk about.
And he actually got booked! I mean first you lose your finger and now this. Wonder if the ref felt guilty at all?
Interesting. I think the last aging star who played in the Austrian league was Savicevic for Rapid. Well okay, Salzburg signed Häßler, but he only played for a few games before injuring himself and eventually retiring. I think any of the Austrian teams could use a player of Karambeu's stature, though.
Oh, man that has got to be the ugly-freakiest injury during a soccer game... EVER. UGH!! It's so freaky reading about it, I feel like puking. BTW, why in the world would you go out and play with rings (and earrings for that matter)??????
that's the reason why players get a yellow card when they jump on the fence. hope football players will think about it....
