Uh yeah, do that and get knocked out for real. Because if you go up to one Mexican (You being American) most likely you will have to deal with all mexicans who witness the altercation.

I am a Mexican American, I do admit our fans are classless. I have on numerous occasions fought Mexicans at Reliant Stadium for acting stupid. in Feb 2008 some smart Asian American lifted up the USA flag on the way out of the stadium, and he got dealt with. Me seeing it wasnt a fair fight, I had to whoop 2 Mexicans that night.

It wasn't too bad. It was what I figured it would be. I had a good time despite the loss and being in that stadium, having all our chants drowned out by the Mexicans on the little vuvuzelas was worth the price of admission right there.

I see Puerto Rico, Mexico, and any other kind of National Flag you could think of hanging all the time from apartments here in NYC.

I haven't seen any rioting. Let's stop making excuses for the apelike mentality of our neighbors in the south.

Of course they aren't all that way, as I've said 1000 times......but unfortunately that is the majority of what we see.

I am sorry, but the idiot who took their wife to Azteca cannot complain that she got the same treatment as the rest of the guys in the group. The people that throw shit at games are not really known for their accuracy. I wouldn't take my wife to the game and I would have been rooting for the home team (at least in the general crowd).

That's like me taking my wife to run from the bulls in Pamplona and then complain she got the same treatment as everyone else.

lol at all of the mexicans staring at the US fans on the way out. They wish they were American.

Sorry to hear about some of the experiences some of you US fans had. Its terrible that there are people like that out there in the world. However I'm happy to hear that not all of them are like that and there are good mexicans out there.

Don't be sorry...it was the experience of a lifetime. I don't see hardly anyone here who actually went to the game complaining. It was what was to be expected and anyone who was offended or bothered by their actions didn't know what they were getting themselves into in the first place.

Thanks, Jamison, for the travelog. I was anxious to hear about the gameday experience from those who made the trip. As a US fan, I am in awe of the folks who make these treks to support the side. While I will never excuse violent behavior in any public venue, it amazes me that folks are surprised by the hostile reception.

It's unfortunate to read the responses to that reception by some in this thread ranging from ugly Americanism (draping yourself in the Texas or confederate flag) to outright racism (when did Mexicant become the idiot's phrase-du-jour?). What exactly did folks expect from 100K+ rabid fans of a team in a desperate qualifying position?

I'd hazard a guess that if you have spent the cash to travel to a metropolitan/cultural mecca of Mexico City but your first inclination after the game is to head to MacDonalds, you probably went looking with a less than open mind. It seems many went expecting the worst from the home fans. Sadly it looks like the they made sure you weren't disappointed. Hopefully, the Big Mac was good, though.

Hopefully, all who traveled got back safely. Hopefully, we can hear from some who had positive experiences (or at least those who can relate negative stories without resorting to all the silly racist BS).

Um... that's the attitude that excused rioting after the Danish papers published the cartoons of Muhammad. Nothing excuses violence.

The confederate flag is a drag... what's the thought there?

I want to come next time. Mexico City is an awesome place. I once saw Colombia play Chile in the national stadium in Bogota. This looks similar.

Well, I thought it was a nice day out!

Those of us on the Ole Ole buses got a decent ride to the game, and the posturing really only began when we got to the last 20 yards to the walk into the stadium. And even then it was posturing and yelling rather than the potential for violence. No real security escort on the way in - just lads in polos.

Inside, the US section was only about 75% full, and then only about 75% US, as someone (ole ole?) had flogged cardboard to green shirted Mexicans. Who, it might be added, made futile attempts to stop their countrymen throwing stuff at us. We mostly were well-behaved - even applauding the Mexican National Anthem (which sounds like something that should be played on a barrell organ with a monkey dancing on it, BTW) - they were.....less classy.

I saw one lad in our section get a coin to the face, he was bleeding quite profusely, and someone else was hit by a full water bottle and bruised.

Leaving the game aside for those with a better tactical knowledge than me, teh way out was a little more interesting, but still less threatening than a game in England. Again it was bravado, and when 'offered out' they backed away behind the thinning security cordon. I found that the best way to get their blood really boiling was to blow kisses and tell them that you wanted them to be your 'wife' - this got some of them pretty upset. Again, all just bluster from me and them!

More hostile than Costa Rica - yup. But not as bad as Guatemala last year, IMHO.

BTW, we all had to take our belts off and leave them on the bus, and were then taken into the stadium with no physical search wahtsoever.

I´d do this trip again. Fun time, worth it in my eyes.

Dr Detroit - yup, we got to see what that person looks like.

And to the guy who brought the Confederate flag, you are nothing but a gaping axewound and so are your children. Everyone who we talked to at the match thought that dude was a fu(khead.

That’s a shame, that if you did this at Azteca it wouldn’t de a fair fight. I have done it in the US, and works well . I am not encouraging fights, just to stand up and defend yourselves when they do this classless crap. Most of the times they freak out a bit when they see you confronting them and pinpoint a specific fan.

No, it’s not his fault – dirty little cowards that throw shiet behind his back are. Why don’t they throw that stuff when they are right in front of the fans – they know some of us would take them down.

Don’t defend those classless little b!tches.

Mexican’t is not a racist comment – why would we sugar coat classlessness. They are our rivals for crying out loud.. the team, not all of Mexico ( for all the little PC freaks that want to jump at any comments like that).

Little cowards doing that – bleeding, man that sucks.
Nice job on taunting them ;)

Texas could obviously be a point of contention for people in Mexico, but comparing a person who lives in Texas bringing the flag of their state to someone bringing the confederate flag is way out of line.

Tippose what are you talking about????? I demand an apology! I made *NO* racist remarks about Mexicans! Since when is it a crime to go to McDonalds? Come to think of it I was actually the only gringo in the place...everyone else was Mexican. I guess you missed my other post where I said Mexicans are some of the kindest people in the world, and that MC is one of the most underrated cities in the world. The fact remains that a riot happened outside the Sheraton, and the police had to use force to break it up....because I went to McDonalds doesn't change any of that. If it makes you feel any better I also went to the Bascillica Guadaloupe, the City Cathedral, Temple Mayor, the National Art Museum, and the fine arts museum. ....you can see the photos at the link I provided in my previous post. Does that make you happy?????

And in a perfect world they should also give me back rubs and only use G rated language. I take it that you have never been to a game in Italy, Argentina, Brazil or any other country in the world that has as much passion for the sport as Mexico does. I am not saying that the passion justifies their behavior, but it is going to happen and you should take that into consideration instead of bitching when the inevitable happens. If you are going to bitch when your wife gets something thrown at her, then don't take her (I wouldn't), because that is bound to happen. I too would hope that crowds behave better at every sporting event, but I am not blind or stupid, shit will happen. So yes, its partly his fault for taking her into that situation (and no, that does not mean I excuse their behavior).

We went to Azteca last time, we didn't get hit by flying bottles (or at least, only a few). Saying 'well, you knew what to expect' doesn't excuse them from being tools by doing that. I was wearing a US jersey and rooting for my country. I didn't say anything mean, racist or otherwise confrontational all day, no need.

Yeah, that flag has no place in a US section, IMO. I get that some people see it as a source of pride for where in the US they are from, but it is just too divisive.

I expect a human being to be smarter than a cow. Nuff said.

Is it me or are there some ignorant people who obviously failed their US history class claiming that flag flown was confederate?

When I saw the flag on the youtube video I thought it was the flag of Texas. Isn't the confederate flag (X pattern) the same as the General Lee car from Dukes of Hazard?

Now if they had flown that flag with the X pattern then I can understand, but
to get on the bandwagon and all pissy just shows you are just as ignorant as the classless fans who were throwing stuff.
