I will probably end up coming from Phoenix by myself, but I know Chase and the SCB will probably get something going. I'd recommend taking over one hotel that we can all book at. Maybe a group rate or something
I agree. Safety is not an issue unless you bring it on yourself by doing stupid stuff. But, it is *fun* to stay at a hotel with lots of other supporters ... and you can still do all the things you enjoy doing on your own ... except maybe sleep the night before and after the game!! FWIW, FCDallasAddie has relatives in Mexico City, travels there a few times a year, and is probably a good person to take advice from for this trip. What she says may not be perfect for everyone, but it's a good go-by if you don't know much (or anything) about traveling down there.
About 525 from Atlanta. Hard to believe it is only 3 1/2 hours direct (I haven't flown non-stop before).
Check a departure city of BWI (Baltimore) instead of DC. Miami, use FLL. Instead of LAX, double check ONT, SNA. Sometimes you'll fine lesser rates. If price is a big deal, TLC is in Toluca (outside mexcio city) which has a shuttle service into the Mexico City (airport to airport).
So now that the match is scheduled for a Wednesday night, what are the chances it'll be moved to the weekend? Was about to burn some miles and book a free trip down there, but am nervous that they might try to change the date.
That price I quoted was the best price of all the airports leaving the morning of the 12th and coming back the 13th (BWI, DCA, and Dulles). They will probably come down a bit, at least I hope they do. EDIT: As I checked for itineraries leaving the 11th and returning the 13th, it's $395. MUCH better!
I was going by the statement that "The scheduled dates are Wed./Sat., but the regulations give the federations some room in scheduling." Wasn't sure how much truth there was in that.
Thanks -- I had not seen that, so it seemed like wishful thinking. Still, I would assume zero, or they would've said something. Also, despite maybe a few more dollars coming, I don't think Mexico wants to encourage more fans of its hated rival to come
I found cheaper flights. I use sidestep.com to compare various prices. I indicated that I had found a cheaper price a couple posts ago:
By all means, if that is the way one feels I completly agree. I personally know of people who are interested in going and dont have any idea as to planning for this trip. For alot of these individuals they would prefer going as a group so....whatever floats your boat. It indeed is a wonderful city and I personally know of it beauty and culture. At the same time I dont want to make anyone weary of traveling to the game but have to inform people that it is dangerous in certain degrees. The fact that we're going for a game and will have numbers one way or another is a positive thing....
I an in as well, with two or three others , plus a good amount from the Riot Squad. I was planning on going to mexico city only for three days, but now that its midweek, i might head down for the whole week. Chase
You can wear your team colors leading up to the game and the day of but if the US wins or even ties, you better stay in the group. stuff will be thrown in our direction regardless. The main point is mexico fans don't care that we are there supporting the US prior to the game. They will talk the talk but are bad sports when they lose. If you really want to go, just buy the ticket now. don't think about it. Really, don't. If you do, you won't go and make up an excuse.
I get the sense from the US Soccer website that they are putting travel packages together via a travel service called oleole.com. I assume these packages would include a ticket in a US section and secured transport to and from the stadium (and that includes secured escort from the bus into the stadium and vice versa).
US Chapters in Mex City All, Wikipedia claims that the Yanks have a large population in Mexico. It is time to use technology and invite every US abroad chapter (like Democratic Party, Republican Party, US Chamber of Commerce, US Toastmasters and etc) around Mexico City to attend our functions. A lot of these groups probably meet once a month. Let's hit them now and many times, so they can feel the buzz.
Re: US Chapters in Mex City Plus these chapters could organize a pre-game party at a hotel ballroom or plaza. They could have membership tables and food booths as fundraisers. From newspaper ads to radio spots, I'm sure that they could drum up the Americans who are living in Mexico to check out the American Fiesta!
Re: US Chapters in Mex City In Mexico City, there is a lot Americans who are part of different civic groups like the Young Republicans, Young Democrats, Kiwanis Club, US Chamber of Commerce, Toastmasters, and etc. It is another way of getting more Yanks -who are local - to the stands besides us.
Re: US Chapters in Mex City But they could care less about being there. I want to be around other US fans who travelled to Mexico City to cheer on the US, not some random people who happen to work in Mexico City.
Re: US Chapters in Mex City No shit. From my own experiences overseas the last gringo I wanna hang out with is an Expat
