Mod's note Remember there is a WC ref forum where this ref can be discussed also. More places to talk!
funny watching hiddink cry. still Japan played like crap in front of the goal, they couldn't get one pass right. May have been a non-call on the goal, but aussie has been fouling nonstop. what goes around comes around i guess.
Right, but in the case of an obstruction, the player takes a specfic action to cause the obstruction. Perhaps what I should have said is "being in someone's way" is not in itself a foul. Taking a specfic action to be in someone's way might well be. Not sure which applies here.
Oh please.. Think for a second... It would mean FIFA and Japan would be willing to take the chance that they won't run into an honest ref' who would run to the press saying "FIFA (Japan) tried to buy me.." Imagine the consequenses.. Why on earth would anyone take a chance like that? It's insane.. This is not a match in an Italian league or something.. It's the FIFA World Cup.. Imagine FIFA itself getting caught buying refs in the WC?? Insane..
The Japanese have been going down rather softly and I think that's to paly on their whole we are small, please don't hurt us but give us freekicks mentality.
actually Yanagisawa was pushed by a defender and hit by the keeper before Takahara bumped into the keeper. I think it was the aussie defender pushing yanagisawa into the keeper that got him off balance.
You're right. You run into the Japanese keeper and it's a foul. Run OVER the Aussie and well, it's a goal. You can call it either way and this ref most certainly did.
you are right about the keeper, always come out strong with your knee up. But it was a clear charge, the japanese player had no contact with a ball at all and straight ran into the keeper. Bad call and just bad luck for aussie the game isnt over tho, way Viduka is getting the ball with his post play, I can see Aussie scoring in 2nd half
Not insane.....Look at the Olympics with the french judge. That is the Olympic games! Bigger than this World cUP!
Actually, that comes into play when the keeper is in control of the ball. Still, the amount of whinging is remarkable. Makes me want to root against the Aussies, I'm afraid. At least you aren't Ivoiran. There were some blunders.
Btw,this goal is a perfect example of how poor the US coverage is. Hardly any analysis or slow-motion replays of that goal other than saying it's a bad call. Competent coverage would have been all over that goal at half time.
boy i cant wait till that USA vs czechoslovakia match....... did anyone know that USA is ranked #5 in the world???
I finally got a clear view on a replay, and that's what I saw, too. No act of an Australian player clattering a Japanese opponent into Schwartzer at all. The Socceroos got jobbed on the call. No question. However, if Schwartzer doesn't come off his line so tentatively, then none of that controversy happens. He has to command the area better, in that instance.
