ChuckA, saw the report. Don't worry we've all seen such performances, but it hurts when the loss isn't even graceful. What about the other 6 games?
I wasn't there (no vehicle), but I've been there several times before, and the place has tons of standing room - so I'm not surprised to see that amount of people in attendance. Plus, it's the only thing in town, so I know they must have highly publicized it. Kudos to them! Hopefully for the next round, I'll have the vehicle and can get to the game to take pictures of it. I know it'll be the Fire and Revs. Should be a great match, though probably not quite as many people there. Still - it will be a nice boon to the area.
I'll try to find out what the Charlotte number was - when I spoke to them before the game, they had already presold close to 1000 tickets and were expecting a pretty good walk up. I'd expect about 2300 or so.
Charlotte crowd was around 2300 I would estimate...It was played at Davidson College and was standing room only...
The fact that it was Chivas helped the number - Chivas fans were atleast 1/3 of the crowd...great atmosphere.
Portland - 2400+ Minnesota - 2100+ Western Mass - 3100+ Rochester - 7800+ Dallas - 400+ Richmond - 0 Atlanta - -500 Charlotte - 2300+
Places like Atlanta and Dallas should not be hosting these games. They can not even draw 1000 people.
Not even close. 5% maybe. You could hear a pin drop when Chivas scored the winner with about 15 seconds remaining before PKs.
That might have been tickets sold b/c I was there , and counting kids and all ,there had to be close to 5K at the very least. Great game, too bad the Pioneers didn't close the defense after scoring the first of the match. They were obviously physically under fit and run out gas by the half.
Whacha talkin' about? 4 yrs ago during the play-offs the average was over 5K, and the final ,which the Pioneers won, packed in more than 6K (seating and standing).
Why was Dallas hosting the game anyway? One of the great things about the Open Cup is seeing smaller clubs have big attendances to see MLS teams come to town.
Richmond vs Ocean City = 702 Last weeks match rescheduled due to lightning and again is delayed for 1 hour+ due to lightning and rained lightly for most of first half. Played in Sportsbackers Stadium (3200 max) instead of UofR stadium (23,000+ max) which has traditionally drawn significantly smaller crowds.
