Just where are the club getting all their miney from!!!??? Any ideas? Wage Bill must be huge and attendances were poor last year! Could be a diaster if they fail to qualify for European comp. next uyear!
Being the 2nd team in the city doesnt make them poor. They can still do better attendance wise than a lot of other clubs. And they should be good this year...
There attendances may be poor by their standards but was still better than a lot of other clubs... They are still a traditional "heavyweight" of la liga, even if their current status doesn't suggest so.
They're still in contention to the title, but have lost some of the luster of the early portion of the season.
On the basis of today's performance away to Celta Vigo, the potential for a UCL spot should not be discounted! Prior to this game though they looked very much inept in front of goal! But the team does boast some fantastic talent on board and a European place should realistically be within reach!
You cant forget there doing all this missing their two best wingers! Lucky for them Maniche has almost recovered his form from euro 2004..amazing displays to control the midfield. Aguero is a talent just like messi. and the defence is pretty solid as well.
Atletico has committed to sell their stadium and has gotten a chunky advance on that, which is where their transfer money comes from. Basically they will move out of the stadium, have the city rezone it and sell it as a prime piece of real state in downtown Madrid, and then they will move to Madrid's olympic stadium in order to reinforce Madrid's 2016 bid (one of the criteria to evaluate an Olympics bid is that the stadium be put to alternate uses after the Games, and obviously having Atletico commit to play there every couple of weeks reinforces the bid enormously, which is why the city of Madrid is willing to help Atletico out).
That sounds very shortsighted. What happens when they've spent all the money? It could well be Leeds part II. Will they have to pay anything to use the Olympic Stadium? What happens if Madrid doesn't win the Olympics? Spending should be based on consistent, reliable revenue.
The City is probably more than happy to use the stadium for real estate. The prices for apartments and the like in Madrid are mirroring that of London and southern California. And I'm sure if they don't get the 2016 games, they will keep trying..
Well, they have to move in to reinforce the bid BEFORE a decision is made on the 2016 Olympics, so if we don't get them, they'll still play there. In order to make this an asset to the bid, Atletico's commitment to playing there has to be credible (ie preferably true), so if the plan says "Atletico will play there if we get the Olympics" it sounds really half-assed. I doubt they have to pay anything for the first few years. Welcome to Spain.
