So I was looking at the Beat's website and under the stadium section I thought before it said that they would be playing in the Northwest corridor of town which most thought was Kennesaw State's new digs, but now the section says they will be playing in the Atlanta metro area. Which of course is the least useful response possible. Where else would they play, Macon?
Brunswick? In all seriousness, I wonder if the thing with Kennesaw State didn't work out? So, metro ATL, huh? I would say that limits their options, but if they're selling this as something revolutionary, or however they were selling it before, I'd assume that doesn't mean shacking up with the Silverbacks.
Well, it is now Nov. 1. And no stadium announcement. Some player moves and rumors. But no stadium location announced to the public. Anyone hear anything?
Nope, it seemed like it was pretty clear it was going to be the one up in Kennesaw and there site said the stadium would be in the NW part of metro atlanta but they have since changed it on the site to just metro atlanta and haven't said anything about it. I guess something fell through with the Kennesaw plan and they are having to look elsewhere.
If push comes to shove, they can use my back yard. Everyone can bring folding chairs and coolers. I promise to scoop the dog poop off the pitch prior to kickoff.
http://www.womensprosoccer.com/Home/atlanta/news/press_releases/beat-and-ksu-announcement.aspx Looks like they will be playing at Kennesaw State after all.
Wooo. They're gonna share a stadium. Woo. I mean, what else could it be? It's not like we didn't kinda/sorta see this coming.
Ya, I just don't know why it took them so long to announce it since everyone was expecting it since October.
Any speculation or random ideas what the surprise twist might be? Because right now, I can't think of a single one. Plus, would having matches at Kennesaw mean no beer?
A) The Beat can't sell beer at Kennesaw but can give it away -- ergo, free beer @ Beat games. B) Kennesaw will not charge any usage fees so the Beat will make a profit. C) The Beat actually having a stadium contract is the surprise. D) The Beat staff define "surprise" differently than the rest of us and having the announcement in Dec when they originally said October is the "surprise."
Atlanta finally announced the stadium http://www.womensprosoccer.com/Home/atlanta/news/press_releases/stadium announcement.aspx I figured since they finally announced it this deserved its own thread rather then be buried in the discussion thread but if it needs to be merged that is ok too. The stadium mock up looks pretty nice and I think it will be a good sized stadium(8,500) for the team.

Re: Atlanta finally announced the stadium So the Beat & Kennesaw St. have agreed to build a soccer specific stadium. Great. Nice long term planning and commitment to WPS and women's soccer. Where are they going to play in 2010? begins counting. December. January. February. March. Oh. My. In that case, I have a couple of questions. 1) Has ground been broken? Assuming an April-August schedule like last season, 4 months is not a whole lot of time to throw together a quality (and by quality I mean, you know, better than a middle school field) stadium before the season starts. 2) Are they starting with an existing structure/field/leveled ground that will speed up construction? Because, really, in what world does what is pictured in that release get built from scratch in 4 months? 3)Where will the team be playing when the winter rain and tightened credit lines delay construction? 4) How far away/easy to get to is this place for the general Atlanta + burbs population? Other Random Comments: From the picture, it looks like a lot of Beat fans are going to roast in the hot Georgia summer sun. On the plus side, if they price drinks properly (ie lower than $5 each bottle/cup), they could make some real cash on concessions. Looks like Johnson has followed the MLS "include a stage to make money but rip up the grass for games" model. If it makes the franchise (and league) economically viable, at this point a stage is worth it. But, again, is the stadium in a place where people will actually go to see an event?

Will a friendly mod please merge the new thread with this one so folks don't have to go to two places to talk about the new stadium? thank you. I posted in the other thread but I'll say it again, here. Do they really think they can get a stadium built in 4 months?
So, I went straight to the source: Scott Foster, the public contact person for the Atlanta Beat. Here's what he says about beer: "We will sell beer! The land is owned by the foundation so we can sell beer... pass it on!!! Don't forget to tell all your friends to call me for season seats! Thanks Scott"
Re: Atlanta finally announced the stadium I posted this on the other thread, but thought it should go here too: I asked Scott Foster what was the deal with beer. Here is what he said: We will sell beer! The land is owned by the foundation so we can sell beer... pass it on!!! Don't forget to tell all your friends to call me for season seats! Thanks Scott
