I have an ATI Radeon Mobility x300.

A while back something wierd happened and the look of my screen got messed up. Hard to explain but most games still seem to work. Anyways I figured that getting the new drivers might fix it. So I try to do such. Unfortuatelly when I try to install them I get

'INF Error- Driver not installed' and then
'Installation cancelled- Try to setup the Standard VGA Drivers before installing'

    then the setup stops.

Has anyone else experienced this and/or found a work around?

Also if anyone has experienced anything where the screen looks wierd (some icons and such, especially in IE are pixelated for some reason and just little things like that look wierd) that would be nice for advice as well.

Did you try reinstalling the OS? that might help.

No, like I said I don't have an XP disk (unless I can do it without that) I'm also not THAT savy about it. I'm not sure if I could do a disk wipe. Although that may be what I need to do.

Did you try go into safe mode and installing the driver from there? Also make sure you have the correct drivers. I think ATI Radeon Mobility might have it's own drivers.

I got the main drivers, and x300 was listed as one of them. I'm not sure if they have different ones for mobility x300.

Yes I did that, I also went into VGA Mode via f8 and no avail. :(

try clear out the old driver with this, http://www.drivercleaner.net/

then try installing the drivers again, if windows want to install drivers itself after, don't let it, just press cancel and then install the ati drivers.

I am completely clean of drivers and am in 800x600 only.

But true to form I cannot install the drivers. I think something is wrong with the card itself perhaps it has a virus or something.

I'm going to try to download some post-manufacturer drivers and see if I can even install them. As it is right now, I don't even think my card is working because it has no ATI drivers at all and still won't install the new ones..

    ********!!!

Me thinks I removed the entire card altogether. :(

I put the res up a little but now when I scroll it takes 10 seconds to go an inch. :(

I should just stop with computers altogether.

There are 3rd party Radeon drivers. I have them installed on my laptop and it was the only way Battlefield 2 would work.

    They are called OmegaDrivers.

    You probably won't be disappointed.

Not sure about the chipset, but I was able to install the omega drivers. Not sure if it has made a difference but at least I have some options in the display menu, now.

Didn't really fix the fuzzy icons but I will probably just have a to a reboot in the next year or so to fix that.

something just crossed my mind... if your text/icons are fuzzy you are probably operating in the wrong resolution.

Find out your laptop's native resolution and make sure you're running in it!
