    Re: Sol???

After reading the article it says to me that Lehmann and Cole will play, but Campbell is definitely out. If Clichy was fit I think he might rest Cole, but won't he need Cygan to plug the hole at centre back? Unless he's finally going to give Senderos his chance.

Whatever the team, they'l be smarting from last weekend's result and Southampton are pants. I fully expect a good old-fashioned walloping to be handed out. 5-0 to The Arsenal.

Well...no. Rooney's goal (at Everton Oct. 19 2002) actually marked the beginning of a 4-game losing streak (Auxerre and Blackburn at home, Borussia Dortmund away).

Southampton *was* the beginning of our 49-game league streak, but that came on the heels of a home loss to Leeds later that same season.

What about Hoyte? He played in the middle against Norwich, although he gave away the penalty to Huckerby. But yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing Senderos either.

This is Southampton, with little to no attack. Why not go 3-5-2? That means Reyes, Freddie, and Pires could all start alongside Vieria and Edu.

    Yeah, sounds like Lauren-Hoyte/Senderos-Toure-Cygan
I think Cygan does fairly well in the middle, but him playing on the left gives me night terrors. Without Phillips, Beattie, or even Crouch ;) , the Saints shouldn't trouble our back four too much, though.

Back to the Rioch days? ;) I always thought 3-5-2 was a great formation if you had the players to use it; IMO, we're a little too short of cover in the center to do it on a regular basis.

    Are you thinking
    ------Lauren-Toure-Cygan-------
    Pires-----------------------Reyes
    ---------Vieira----Edu-----------
    -------------Freddie-------------
    ---------Dennis------------------
    ------------------Henry---------?

    Goals galore, man.

Exactly. They're usually poorly taken in the first place and rarely capitalized on even when they are not. I guess it's not that surprising since we're not really a club that relies on the traditional high cross into the box even during the run of play.

    Re: Sol???

I've liked what I've seen of Hoyte, but Wenger singled out Senderos for asome praise after the City match, so maybe he thinks he's ready. I know it would be playing him out of position, but maybe he could slot Hoyte in at left-back. That would be better than Cygan who is too slow to play out there. Anyway, like I said, I think Cole will make it unless there's something serious wrong with him.

So, when did Clichy get injured? I must have missed it.

I think it was playing for the French U21s. Out for another couple of weeks, an ankle injury I believe.

This looks more or less like what I'd like to see. Maybe Pires up front more and Freddie in his place on the wing. I suspect though that with Champions League on Tuesday Arsene will go 4-4-2, and sub out Henry, Reyes, Pires, or DB10 after Arsenal goes up 3 or 4 nil. Pennant is ready, and Van Persie showed this week that he deserves a go with the first squad... Southampton is the perfect stage. But with Tuesday being so huge for morale Arsene will definitely not overexert anyone.

Seeing though that Sol wont play, I take back my early comment about him opening up his premiership account this week  . Instead, I revise my prediction to 4-0, with two goals by Henry, one from Freddie, and another by Reyes.

While I appreciate the all-out attack seniment, that team is suicidal. A half-decent side against that would pin us back and get in behind those wing-backs with ease. If you had three true defenders and Cole and Lauren on the wings you might get away with it, but that side is mad.

so we don't know yet if cole is out?? lehmann too... although i gotta say i can't even picture lehmann playing cuz he's always been there since he arrived, right...

i know cole's injury was obviously from horseface, but what about lehmann? do i have yet another reason to hate the diving dutchman??

not that i don't have faith in almunia... i actually think he looks pretty good, and i'd love to take him for fantasy football... :D

anyway, we need to thrash 'em... for the team's morale and mine too... :p

Well I'm normally one of the more optimistic types round here, but that formation is just asking for trouble IMO.

Today is my Birthday and all I want for my Birthday is an Arsenal Victory oh and maybe a Rolex. :D

    My prediction is 1 - 0

I've been in Vegas all week completely depressed about Arsenal, but happy for the Sox. So now I'm home and it's time for some Saturday Football. :)

    Come On Arsenal!

Well, it's moot anyway as Ash appears ready to go for #1 in (I hope) 50. Personally, I'd like to see DB10 and JAR rested with the Pana game in mind, but I doubt AW would start RvP at this stage.

And Happy Birthday to you, P. According to Arsenal World,
29 October 1904 First Division The Wednesday 0 Woolwich Arsenal 3
29 October 1983 First Division Aston Villa 2 Arsenal 6
    29 October 1968 League Cup Arsenal 5 Blackpool 1
29 October 1960 First Division Arsenal 2 Manchester United 1
29 October 1977 First Division Arsenal 1 Birmingham City 1
29 October 1955 First Division Arsenal 2 Charlton Athletic 4
    7-3-5. Not bad.

Alumina; Lauren, Toure, Cygan, Cole; Freddie, Edu, Vieira, Pires; Reyes, Henry

3-0 with two for Edu and one for Jose Antonio.

why is scoring two goals called a brace?

Agreed... i think DB10 needs to start on the bench. Considering Ashley is fit, I'd go

    -----------Lehmann--------------
    A.Cole---Cygan---Toure---Lauren
    Ljungberg---Edu---Vieria---Pires
    --------Reyes-------Henry--------
