Yeah, sure. But he's one of the pundits on the Guardian podcast who I find entertaining. Ronay and Wilson, Bandini too, I'd say. Barry can be funny but also curmudgeonly and prone to the tropes. Max can get in the bin.
I agree after years of it, the style gets thin, but he does have the some of the greatest quotes ever about Andy Carroll
I feel like wilson, who used to be one of the great football writers at the G, is being slowly tormented by his editors and made to write crappy hot takes after the Athletic gutted the place
That's the thing - his takes on tactics and history were great He match reviews are awful. Now they make him write about XG and stuff he clearly hates. I had the impression one of his recent articles about .eth was a pisstake.
The "new" way to think about Arsenal and what Arteta is doing has been a bit of a high hurdle for much of what I'll call the old guard to overcome. Wilson, for all his encyclopedic knowledge of history and tactics and history of tactics, nevertheless often falls into that "old guard" category.
Me too. And I listen to Totally Football in no small part because of Richardson. Don't love 100% all of him, but he's a one-of-a-kind in the field methinks.
I think that's the issue. The new school, really started by Ted and the infamous football analytics list (over 10 years ago now!) really changed everything. It's even become hard to show what is really happening without multimedia Rugby is currently going through this - people are creating clips on social media where they mark all the little things going on which you'd have little hope of noticing when watching live.
I missed this during the match, but F365 recognized Jover for this wonderful scheme in their recap of the the best from the midweek games
the only podcasts i can listen to nowadays are handbrake off and arseblog, football weekly went downhill so bad
I added BBC's Planet Premier League to my rotation and have really enjoyed hearing from Cesc, who's a regular on there. (along with Nedum Onuoha & Statman Dave) Also, Athletic's Daily Football Briefing is a nice little 10-12 min show to keep you up with things.
Yup. ArsenalVision is clearly in the top 2 Arse pods for me (after you turned me on to it quite a few years ago) Not that I have a strict ranking.
Also, for any of you who like footy quiz competitions, The Totally Football pod has just started today its annual inter totally cup. A little abbreviated this year, with only 8 contestants. One match per show.
